Would've been fun to see a few jokes in the mix with this video too—the concept is kind of interesting but I'm not feeling this as a comedy necessarily, based purely on this mission video.

Ryan Caron - not sound

Ryan Caron - not sound

David Cowling was basically the 'everything sound' on Blank Verse! In addition to composing scores for each episode, he was also on set recordist and post-production mixing! This one shoot he wasn't at resulted in Ryan Caron taking on the role for Act 3 Sc. 3- This went so terribly that, in the end, David wound up doing an entire ADR recording for the episode & thus held his title as sole sound recordist for Blank Verse- He also produced podcasts of each act. Ryan Caron, was not at a loss however, as his multiple roles on the series kept him plenty occupied- It's still an awesome photo though!

It seems like some of this is repeated from your other videos but since this is apparently reaching out to new people to watch your show I don't think that matters at all. The idea is smart and it is one of the better produced ones (sound/video quality). Not super funny but the potential is here for sure, I would watch more!

I like these fresh face kids. I would like to see more on Shakespeare comedy, dromedy, and mix mash of other playwrites in their work. Life is all that and to see it played out in comedy will make it well worth the traumas, and dramas. :)

Clever idea, I really think you could do a lot with this. It's already funny to think of Shakespeare as a partying University student in the modern day. Hope to see more, good luck moving forward.

What an interesting concept. Leaves room for plenty of story paths to explore I think we relate well to historical characters plopped into our reality and world, so why not good ol William? As long as it doesn't slide into the unnecessary crass zone, it would be an interesting work. Best of Luck to y'all.

I think it's a great way to bring interest into classic works to the younger generations by modernizing them into the same environment. Of course it's been done many times, but I don't recall ever seeing it in this type of setting. Is your show geared to a younger audience? Would have been great to hear what demographic you're aiming for. I find you guys have a unique humour that sets your apart from the others. Whether or not that's a humour that people are looking for remains to be seen!

I don't know, I find this sort of boring. I think I like the, what if Shakespeare was a regular guy thing but it feels like cover band theatre. Why ride on an existing achievement? If I took a cool photo of the Mona Lisa, would that be art? Would it be valid? Also production wise, you were fine but there was nothing really said about your visual aesthetic.

You were very clear in what your concept was all about, which is great, but I'm not sure where you will take your idea from here. I can see this as a difficult sell for TV, much of Shakespearean work of today is forced on school children to read so I can see this as being a disadvantage to your concept.

This whole project feels like it's targeted to Arts students, who will get the nuances. It has potential if it doesn't get too deep into the subject matter as most of us only have a very topical layer of shakespear.

At first I was dubious at how well this concept would play out, especially since Shakespeare seems like low-hanging fruit compared to an original idea. But, you guys have won me over. Going forward my votes will go to storyline, substance and ability to deliver a sustainable, CBC suitable, comedy series. Curious to see if you can deliver that.

Not going to lie, I love a good back story. I would love to see the back story of how Shakespeare wrote his best comedy, and I love the idea of him being in university (Although he did drop out of school). University AU are always fun to watch. Good luck!

I don't think a show needs to be funny all the time. I think hooking people in and letting them follow the plot and characters before you go for the laughs is an interesting way to present it.

I appreciated the factual presentation of what you are trying to do, but I think you missed out on a chance to add some laughs to make the pitch more interesting. Great idea… but I think you undersold it with your delivery.

I appreciate that you are completely putting your concept out on the table for people, but I have to say that it's a far from enticing idea. It's hard to tell if you guys will be funny or not and frankly the humor seems inherently geared towards theatre/english lit nerds and while that may pull in a decent audience, it's not exactly appealing to most people. I think you guys are sincere about the subject matter, but unfortunately for myself, I'm bored just thinking about it. Good luck, though!

Well done. You were concise, sincere, I have a sense of who you are, and I now know exactly what your project is. It's nice to see that diversity is a point of pride with you as well. The only thing I would consider tinkering with is the title of the series.

I now have a way better understanding on what your trying to get produced, the info was great but i don't think you needed to change the voice-over, the female voice was working great. I'm still not quite sold on the idea and you could have provided some laughs in this video, always room for funny. Good luck with your HYPE event Thursday night.

Would've been fun to see a few jokes in the mix with this video too—the concept is kind of interesting but I'm not feeling this as a comedy necessarily, based purely on this mission video.

I think you are really bringing Shakespeare to life... seriously his bones are moving…i don't think he wanted that to happen…you know his epitaph and everything. Like your show. Good luck!

I've been following you because I'm intrigued by the concept of bringing Shakespeare into the present. However, I'm not sure if you are just focusing on one play "A Midsummer Nights Dream" or if you intend to explore others.

For the purpose of Comedy Coup, we've chosen to focus on one iconic play for inspiration and structure. With the webseries we played more diversely, drawing from other plays, one per arc, and whatever future the project has will almost certainly continue to draw upon the rich body of the Shakespeare canon.

I like knowing a bit more of the backstory.. i.e., that it was a web series, makes sense. One thing that still troubles me, (though I am interested and following this project)... is whether it's what I would classify as comedy. It seems like it could also be classified as Shakespeare / Degrassi... and I wouldn't call that comedy. Not that you won't have funny moments... but I'm still not convinced this is the same category that so many other shows are competing for...

Absolutely; we are taking the tag line "New Forms of Funny" to heart and sharing our style. It's a different flavour than many of the other projects in the running, and I'm proud to be part of that variety. Comedy once meant "has a happy ending", usually a wedding; before that it was used to define a genre of mostly biting satire and ironic political commentary. Being the lit nerds we are, we absolutely harken back to those meanings, while also dabbling in the sharp, quick-witted exchanges and absurdism that I love from the genre's modern iterations.

Thanks for giving us a shot; if you want a broader sample to see if our style can peak your interest, you can check out the webseries on Youtube- I would recommend Act 4 if you want to jump right into the laughs. It's where we introduce Burbage...

the video was well executed. I am just not sure if this genre will stand the test of time and interest viewers enough. the sell sheet also has a little too much text.

I like that you have females playing male characters! I finally completely understand what your show is about (maybe I should have read those blurbs on the side). I thought this video really explained your show quite well, just what the media would need to see. It's also great that you've managed to snag yourselves 3 press articles so far. As for your Thursdays event, I know it's obvious that the time refers to 8:00pm PST, but it wouldn't hurt to throw the PST in there (just in case).

That was pretty funny guys. Nice job on the hype video. A lot of other teams didn't really have any hype of their show itself, just the writers so this was fulfilling the requirement much better.

I would think that a media pitch should feature what makes this show funny first and foremost. This video is a dry account of how the show came to be, not a sales pitch of what it could be.
