Every video you guys do is just awesome! I love monday nights when a new video comes out so i can watch it. It would be wicked to see you guys on the cbc with a comedy series. I can make popcorn and wait for it to come on. Like clock work. I could even buy chips from a dep and sit in front of the tv and wait for Depflies to come on.
Awesome work!

To prepare for our dépanneur themed event on Nov 4th we contacted A LOT of press. Launching a media campaign in two languages is complex work! The comedy in the show is rooted in character not caricature. Je n'aime pas les characters. Ils sont unbelievable. I can't get on board with that punk chick. The bilingual concept is unique, but the concept is just like any other sitcom where friends hang out in the same place all the time (I can name 100). Bon effort.

To me, it just seems healthy for the Canadian culture to host a show like this one. It's a dark time for culture these days, this would bring a warm light, a message of love over the hate and fear we are being served each day. This concept is more than a show, it is what Canada needs!

Congrats on making it this far! Fingers crossed for TOP 15?! If not, I'll love you all no matter what and continue to support Depflies!
For those of you who doubt the bilingual aspect of the show, let me say this: I'm from Florida, and yet I've seen two live shows of Depflies and understood the French 100%. And it really makes the concept all that more hilarious. Oh, and in Florida we don't have Deps, so I get to live vicariously through all the Montrealers who do....
Besides, I had a daydream today that I would be a character on the show. That's how much I think about the team behind Depflies. Pure love! I mean, who wouldn't want to be a character on a project like this?

I love seeing a bilingual series from a city that often gets underrepresented by Canadian TV. I love the idea and it's shot beautifully. However easily I can see some of the characters being quite comedic, it still comes across as a dramatic series to me. But great work, guys!

So well shot. And lit. Love the final shot. The Voice over is bang on. When your actors are completely truthful, then I can see this show working, but the "Dep saved my life" girl wasn't truthful in her monologue, and the "I want kids" is a good actor, but needs to play less for the camera.

I can see this has a slice of Montreal thereby making it Canadian, but I don't see it being a comedy show. The character matrix is not diverse. All strong personalities and a bit depressing in tone. Nice idea, but needs to be much lighter.

I first became interested in the show because of it was set in Montréal (a place I lived when I was younger and holds a special place for me) and because it was going to be bilingual (something I appreciate even if I can speak only a little french.) That said, those were the main aspects that attracted me to this, until this weeks video. I absolutely loved the humanizing features in this video. "The comedy is routed in character, not caricature." Also, I like smoothies too, so high five to smoothie guy.

I think the bilingual twist does make this project unique in style delivery...The story line not so much, perhaps for straight comedy. I think this would be a strong, interesting and heartwarming show that could focus on many different situations and emotions, not necessarily all funny. It may not appeal to those who just don't love reading dialogue! All the best in your future.

I have to be honest here - even though I'm a local ice never heard the term dep-flies before, for one, and I also don't find this particularly funny. I guess it helps that you're a large team working together, and that you have a theatre to work with, where I hear you're getting people to vote on their way in. Kudos to your use of resources!

Thanks for your comment, Meghan! In fact, Depflies is a term we created, it's a play-on of the word Barfly (someone who 'hangs out' in a bar). As for getting people to vote on their way in, that would be GREAT if it were actually possible! Registering on the website takes a few minutes in itself, so it's a bit tough to keep the line going.. :) We certainly ask our clientele after they've seen one of our shows on stage to please register to vote if they loved what they saw, and we will help them with that process.
Hope this clears things up for you! Come to one of our shows in the future, and maybe we can make you laugh then!
    Cheers and good will.

I really like your aesthetic. I wish you wouldn't harp on the bilingualism so hugely like it's that big of a deal. and if it is, why not Subtitle the English lines en Français? Seems like it would be a strong stylistic choice and feed into your multicultural language a bit better. Either way. Good work on the look of the videos. I'll keep my eyes out for you in the top 15.

Hey Taylor, thanks for the comments! Very good point about the subtitles. For me, in a "dream" scenario, we would have subtitles in both languages depending on the area, and in Montreal no subtitles at all, or something along those lines! If viewers could choose that would be the best!

I don't find this project as being "unique", mainly because others have compared it to Corner Gas, which automatically echoed my own opinion. The only difference being that the "depanneur" can only be found in la belle province. Because there are so many characters involved, there shows promise of some good story telling. Good luck !

The idea of this show is remarkable, indeed. I’ve got associations with rare nowadays the style of Italian Commedia Dell' Arte. Only just kind of modern canadian version Comedy of characters. :-)) I understand, that I can't give You any advices but… Guys: bring it all to mind. Find montreal's Brigells, Pantalones, Harlequins, Colombins, Tartelets and others. They're all near You! Just look around! The attractiveness of your shows will increase in a 100 times and will give You unlimited possibilities for improvisation as for director as well for the actors. Good Luck to U!! This show looks like in the style of Commedia Dell'Arte!
Good Luck to U!!

I'm sorry, if this sounds mean? But I'm a die hard, critic. The acting's pretty bad. At least in the preview. And not all Canadians speak French. So it's kinda narrowing the audience. Some people only know the basics. When it comes to French. It looks like you have captions. For the people who don't speak French. But think of it, this way. You're watching a foreign movie, or show. In another language. That you either don't know. Or only know the basics. Do you really wanna have to read, what they're saying? And are you really gonna keep watching it? Then there's the slow, readers. Who might only read a few words. Before the other person starts talking.

The charm really went through the plafond on this one. That's right. I googled "ceiling" in French. This show is inspiring. I thought that line, "rooted in character not caricature" really revealed the heart of this group.

Who is the extremely tall person who does some of the camerawork? That last shot was so good. They deserve credit. Maybe they are shy? I know I would be if I was that tall. I don't want to be rude but I am curious where do they sleep? In one big long bed or several beds lined up together? I am sorry if this is rude.

I disagree with the commenters who wonder if this show will be relatable for Canadian's outside of Quebec. I'm from the east, I know no french and I get the show, get the humour. The only thing I wasn't super clear of was how to pronounce "depflies" but this video solved that problem. As the French are known to say: C'est Bon! (I have no idea what that means, and apologize if it's some sort of French insult)

I feel like this video finally made me fully understand what this show is all about. It took a while but you guys have grown on me. It's such a unique sub-culture with a lot of charm

Chipaghetti goodness??? It's the look on your faces that makes me want to give it a try! Wish I could make it to the Theme party tonight! Meet everyone and hear more about your show! Great video and really got into the feel of what you're going for. Awesome job and keep it up!

Love the concept of your videos and this one really captured who and what the show is about. I remember stories of my dad growing up in St. Henri and must share this with the family. Once again, Great job!

Sorry, I can’t get into the material. I am not commenting negatively on your work, it is just not my kind of humour I guess.

This dude has cut and pasted this comment on a few vids I've seen, so don't take it personally.

Great video, even though the subtitles were white again you guys made it work this time. I found they were much easier to read than in the previous video. I also thought you did a great job as to explaining to the media what your concept was, very precise and clear. And as for your Facebook event, it seems awesome. Sounds like a great night listening to some live bands. Nearly forgot, good work on the 3 press articles!

I think you missed the mission this week a little bit. You did a great job at explaining your show and I thought the filming and editing was great but did not really focus on why the media would want to cover you or should want to.

Thanks for the comment Kara! We were hoping they would cover us because we have an original spin on bilingualism and are set in a cool Montreal neighbourhood not much of Canada knows about.

Very well executed video and sell sheet. I’m wishing I could make it out to Theatre Ste. Catherine tomorrow where the Pabst will flow like a river…alas, I cannot.

What a great concept for a show! I really like the way that it encapsulates the characters that I grew up with in the Gatineau Hills. I can't wait to see more of what you guys have to offer! Keep up the great work.

Love the point about characters not caricatures and the message at the ending that shows that your show is about something bigger. Very well done (slow clapping ;)
Good luck this weekend and hopefully see you in the top15!

I am not loving this hype It video. It was very heart warming but did not give me the impression or feeling of a comedy show at times it was depressing. Good job on you sell sheet though I like the pictures of each character.

This video shows how you can be sensible, it is really poetic, artistic. Simply love it. Love at first sight. I want more, enough doesn't exist. The music, is PERFECT. I got an emotion.
