I'd like to mention that if you watch closely, at 1:06, I spit out a spider. Also as further evidence that we work with kids and actors of all ages. Check out this Halloween video we made: http://youtu.be/pocOATq2nvM

Optional images

Seacrest Out.

Seacrest Out.

HumanTown takes place entirely within the show's fictional town namesake. There are no hosts, title cards, studio audience or laugh track; it's just pure 100% content.

Keepin' Things Grounded

Keepin' Things Grounded

While the HumanTown troupe play a large portion of Human Town's residents, we want to avoid having the same, familiar faces playing every role. Instead of throwing a grey beard on Ki to play an older character, or a dress on Dan to play a girl (as HOT as that sounds) we'd rather enlist the services of talented role appropriate actors to keep the world of HumanTown fresh and more believable.

Tone

Tone

There are other sketch shows out there, as well as an increasing number of dark, button pushing comedies; however we want to create a show that lives on the line between normality and skull-liquefying insanity. In a show where the Mayor of a City is revealed to be a puppet controlled by thousands of ants, or a scene starts with a man being stabbed by his dog, how can viewers not be at the edge of their seats when almost anything could happen next?

Format

Format

We plan on exploiting the total freedom our interwoven story structure provides us. One episode could take place in one location, but be made of a dozen different sketches based in that environment, while another episode could be made of just one long sketch following one character's tribulations in HumanTown.

At first, I must admit that Human Town didn't appeal to me; however, with exploring more of your content, the idea has really grown on me. Human Town is like Portlandia meets Mr. Show. The material for the challenges are really well thought out and unique. My only fear for your project is that it has the potential to become too much or old quickly. How do you see the longevity of the show? But, in saying that, you already have season one written and thus have probably thought of these things. Great work and best of luck with the voting stages!

This may be redundant, but I've been watching more of your videos pitching your premise and I still fail to see how this is different than a show like Mr. Show. However, I've been enjoying what you've posted so far and the world could always use a new Mr. Show. Could be a great replacement. I would definitely watch this.

I love the risks being taken here and I'm intrigued. I just wonder if it's too weird for CBC. Seems like it might fit in an Adult Swim environment or late night on the Comedy Network. But who knows? Canada is weird and HumanTown might fit right in.

The amount of variety in just the few videos shows awesome promise. The reverse-DnD thing was priceless. That kind of originality will keep this thing great. Just try to steer clear of ridiculous for ridiculousness' sake. Absurd humour is boring.

This video answered why you are different from other shows. To me it's like Mr.show or Kids in the Hall with a wider cast and character range. I think this show will be great for any aspiring canadian actors looking to get their face out there and show some range. Sketch comedy works so well on the internet what with the copying and the pasting of the youtubes and all that. If CBC, a basic cable channel wants new content to make them more relevant, then this is it.

I like the idea for this show. You pulled me in with your first video with intro to concept. I wonder how the flexible format of some episodes being made up of multiple sketches and others consisting of one long narrative will sit with your audience. Will it draw them in and keep them interested or leave them frustrated and confused. Curious to see if you'll get the chance to find out.

All indicative of the tone, style, and writing ability of the creators. A good video, and I think this show could go the distance with the help of a good set of producers. Key & Peele is a good analogue. No set length, recurring characters, situational, etc. I like the persistent universe idea.

I really love your idea of creating a whole city of overlapping characters and stories to explore, and all three of your videos so far have made me laugh. But (however prudish this might sound), I find some of the swearing out of character with the rest of the silliness of the show... it's almost too aggressive and sometimes seems like it's just there to be intentionally edgy. I have no problem with a good old fashioned cuss, but to me it just seems out of place. Otherwise: smart scripts and great production values. I'm cheering for my boyfriend to win with his Roll for Damage series, but if anyone has to beat him, I would be happy if it was you!

This group continues to intrigue me. I find I do not want the sketch to end they leave me wanting to see what more they will do creatively.

I enjoyed your mission three video. Personally I do prefer a show that has some sort of structure so I know what I'm getting myself into. Hopefully most of your sketches will link together (as you mentioned in your synopsis) as so the audience can continue to relate to the characters. Sketch comedies can be pretty confusing sometimes if they just jump around everywhere. Good luck with the competition!

Sketch comedy can be difficult to do right, but from what I've seen so far these guys are doing it right! Loved the video and I hope we get to see much more.

I'd like to mention that if you watch closely, at 1:06, I spit out a spider. Also as further evidence that we work with kids and actors of all ages. Check out this Halloween video we made: http://youtu.be/pocOATq2nvM

Okay, I didn't see your project until a few days ago, and I have to say it's awesome. I am looking forward to seeing what you guys will bring to the table with Human Town. It is a very unique concept that I think will bring lots of fun and interesting characters and story lines.

This comment recognizes that everything was done in one take... and I admire that.
I think you did a good job in answering this week's challenge! Your pace kept me glued to the screen to make sure I didn't miss anything!

Appreciate the straightforward video with a twist. I got a good sense of how creative this show could be, and like the smooth style you bring to the table. I'm still not confident I want or need another sketch show, but this has intrigued me enough to follow your progress further.

Ah, yes, one of the TV greats. And a similar premise with what we're trying to do as well. If there's another opportunity, we will totally mention Mr.Show. It deserves props for sure

I have been watching you guys since day one, and have been raving about you to everyone... but I don't know what it was about this last video that rubbed me the wrong way. Your concept is solid and exceptionally original, that is obvious... I guess what I'm saying is, try not to rave about how amazing your interweaving story lines are... it felt a little pompous... just keep doing what your doing, and we'll see your genius without you having to tell us your geniuses.

I always make sure to check out your videos. To be honest I thought you had a very specific focus for the show from the previous videos and then this video highlights how each show could be completely different and random each time from all shorts to a long plot as you mentioned. I think this leaves it a little too vague for me as to what it would actually look like. Maybe I like something a bit more predictable and that is something that would catch my attention more. You do seem like a funny bunch though..I'm gonna go make some rose now. :)

Always been a fan, always will be. My favourite part of the concept is the utter genius behind it. I am not worthy. Also, was that Paloma Kwiatkowski from Bates Motel on the TV screen?

Hey guys, I'm Rachel from "Table Scraps". I really like your concept: sketch show but always in the same fictitious town. Our concept is somewhat on the same level; sketch show but always in a restaurant. Keep up the great work! You really make me laugh every week. Hope you make it to the top 50! Cheers.
