Week #5 Hype It Geoff and the Ninja

For our Hype It video, we decided to take the road less traveled (for us) and play it real. That's right, this is our genuine, non-character selves! We really want the media to take notice of our story cause we think it's pretty special :) Hopefully, our attempts to infuse natural humour paid off and you loving fans stay loving and laughing!

Week 5 Sell Sheet: Geoff and the Ninja

Our epic, original poster, utilized at last in our sell sheet! The theme of this poster is all about Geoff's world being bridged by the craziness of Ninja's (thus the wizard).

This week we decided to try and reverse the way we shot and edited our project. Instead of having Jeremy shoot his end on the green screen in Vancouver and editing him into the shots we took here in Prince George. Dan and I were the ones in-front of the green screen and jeremy had to splice us into his footage down south.

Very impressed with this hype, a creative way to get all three of you together. Most projects have no money, so you are on a level playing ground. Actually I think it is very unfair to see the professionals with money in this competition. You sure deserve a shot, it would be great to get some new original deserving teams in the top 15. Good luck.

As a fellow no-budget competitor, I can relate to your pain (oh, can I ever). Having said that, it's wonderful to see that you've made it this far -- you've got a pretty hilarious premise and even across such a great distance, there is a real sense of camaraderie onscreen here. Congrats on making the Top 55, and good luck from a fellow no-budget nobody.

I must say, I wasn't asking why two of you were holograms, I was really asking why weren't all of you holograms. Other than that, this was a good submission. This show looks very crazy and I want to see more. I can relate to you guys, since I too have never had any previous success before making top 55 in this competition. I hope this competition gives guys like us a chance to break into the scene and show girls how cool we actually are.

The fact of the matter is holograms have an 87% brain cancer rate and I just wasn't willing to take chances. Don't tell Dan and Jon that though...

Thanks for the great comment! Right back at you sir, this competition is such an incredible opportunity for the little guys out there. I've been telling girls that for years, not even my girlfriend believes it. Hopefully we can change their minds...

Thanks Matt. We appreciate the kind words. Every week, the challenge is to take it in bizarre directions without losing an audience. We would love to get down and dirty with the craziness of this show but not without building a connection to the characters and their issues first. Our favorite tv shows balance these elements and it's a challenging exercise for us to attempt.

Hey guys, nice video this week! In terms of constructive criticism, I think it lingered a bit too long on how the odds are stacked against you in terms of the long-distance thing, but I definitely sympathize with the lack of funding and production experience. I think you did a really smart thing by putting up the links in that shot near the end. Good luck with the Top 15!

Thanks Michael! Well thought-out feedback. I offer in defence..try and picture having a project you're so passionate about..and for six weeks straight you get almost no hands-on with the production. We've planned GATN for so many years and now that we finally have the chance to do it, it's extremely frustrating not being involved in the most important parts! Add to that that half the shots need to be locked off on tripod for green screen purposes and you can imagine how limiting it is on our creative freedom :(

It's amazing what every team in ComedyCoup has been able to put together under these deadlines, no budget, and on the side of their regular lives.

Geoff and the Ninja definitely sets the bar high in that department. Week after week you guys have made great stuff that explains your concept, has a lot of energy, and is clearly a labour of love.

Hats off for a collection of strong missions despite the distance.

Thanks Peter! The distance has been a hurdle but as much as it's been a detriment, it's also been a boost. It's forced us to get creative in ways we probably never would have imagined otherwise, our week 3 video I think is the best example of this and in our upcoming video, it shines through again.

That said, we sure do look forward to actually shooting something together again soon!

Don't worry Andrew, take a look at the second page of the sell sheet - notice an ominous stare in the clouds? Pirates vs. Ninjas are too classic NOT to include in the show ;)

Minor experience for me, nothing even close to the level of half a million. We're sure we'd have lots to learn along the way but have no doubt we would be able to maximize the return on that budget like no other!

I really loved your video! In most of your videos you have played characters so it is nice to see you guys in the real life!!

You also keep coming up with different creative ways to make amazing videos without being together and continually challenging yourselves by choosing shots where you need to incorporate special effects. You really answered the mission well this week by highlighting to the press why you guys are an interesting story to promote for the contest!

Lastly, love your sell sheet, looks awesome! Great work guys!!!!!

Each week your team's video entries are surprising! It makes me wonder what you'll come up with next.I like the holograms. Oddly, though Jon's and Dan's images are kind of flat, their personalities shone through quite well! Nice closer.

I really like the way you explained your concept and your situation so well for the hype project this week. Considering you aren't in the same city to easily get together and work on the projects, you have done great.
