Chris

Chris "Old Man" Luedecke on set

Chris "Old Man" Luedecke says of Scratch Tracks, the sitcom: "the work in studios tends to be so focused for so long, you get crazy." and "I don't think I've ever worked in a recording studio without some kind of ridiculous humour." and of recording studios, "That's a world I love. I think it would be great as a TV." And of musicians, loving the concept, "Other musicians would dig it because we're all narcissists."

2-time JUNO winner comes to town

2-time JUNO winner comes to town

Two-time JUNO winner Chris "Old Man" Luedecke dropped by SCRATCH TRACKS to talk about the episode that spins a fictional story around his persona and his song "The Palace is Golden." The song is about the character in the song worried that something in the well is causing his impotence. In the episode, Grandma takes it upon herself to learn fertility rites and try them out around town before succeeding with Chris. In the meantime, Nathan succeeds with Chris in the studio, helping him create his on-stage persona, OLD MAN LUEDECKE.

Nathan is a character I could identify with. Lost man hoping to make a living doing what he knows best.
He is the less humorous person and looks like he can be flustered easily.I hope he joins in the shenannigins in the recording studio. If its finding the "ONE" musician to leap his career back to fame and fortune we just have to see all the "in-betweeners'" that will rock this show to CBC's ComedyCoup top 15

The successes, frustrations, failures. Well done!

Cool, cool, cool. We're so pleased with our 90 secs this week. We think we nailed the mission AND gave fans an insider look at the complexities that will make this show tick season after season. You know, one thing we didn't go into was the potential for quirky characters coming out of the woodwork in the small town. Our bible and script do that, but too bad fans can't see it. 90 secs is just too short.

Excellent hype video. Not only do you reveal what makes these characters special to you, but you show what makes this concept special: the inclusion of real musicians and their music, to be interwoven in each new episode. I agree with others who note that thanks to the characters, this sitcom appeals to all different generations. Here's hoping "Scratch Tracks" goes all the way to the Top 15!

It is easy to understand the concept for your show, in addition it harness one of the classic engines for situational comedy (the family). If the writing can deliver this show could definitely work. The musician angle will be tough, but as long as you are not too dependent on it it should work.

I know I'm bias, but what I really like about this whole Scratch Tracks pitch is that you are trying to sell an idea for a great CBC sitcom. I notice that some of the other groups videos are used as resumes - he/she/they are actors looking to create a job for themselves. It kind of alters their focus. You guys are always bang on! You have an idea and you're doing a great job of selling it. Kudos! I smell Top 15 in your future.

Great to hear a bit of the story behind your interesting concept. Love that it's based on real life... they say write what you know and life writes stuff better than you can make-up sometimes.
Look forward to hearing/seeing more of the musical part because music moves people and at the end of the day as artists that's what we all want. My only tip is to keep it interesting while the music is playing (which you have). I'm not sure if audiences have the attention span for a full segment of just music these days ;)
Good luck this weekend and hopefully see you in the Top15!

Great characters, great perspectives. Granny takes it to the extreme and Bridgett gives it the grounding. Nathan is so real, many main stream Canadians can relate, cause they know that guy. Keep it up!.

Love the idea of getting more Canadian music and musicians on the air. Would love to know how you plan to incorporate them into each story (rather than just having them play music every week, will they get to be a part of the high jinks?)

This video did a great job of explaining what the project is. Thank you, because I did not get it on a previous one. I am sure it is appealing to many out there; it is just that i have a hard time with Woodstock Grandma. I wish you well, the idea is great!

We took this mission seriously, talking directly to the media, giving them story angle after story angle - small town studio as inspiration, 2 time JUNO winner Old Man Luedecke with a sick quote and support of the concept, intro to the team, actors and characters and why these complex characters make a unique and compelling concept. A concept as rich as a gold mine for stories, characters and a satisfying kind of funny.
