Thanks for speaking for the rest of the country, Bill. The rest of us on PEI find people that want to speak for everyone else extremely dull and boring. Looking forward to seeing your show.

Haha "Big Naughts", these guys are pretty goofy. Love the Maritimes and nice to see another good-looking show come out of there again. Last one I saw was the "The grand seduction" in friend and they had a bit similar comedy but with the typical franco-humour, which is quite goofy but more sexually orientated. The sperm whale joke was a nice touch in htere though.

Whatever happens during the next voting rounds I hope you guys will continue working on this project. It has a lot of potential. Yes it trades in broad stereotypes but the relationship between the clueless Martin and the dimmer Hughie is a goldmine. Lots of space for laughs and tenderness. With time I believe you guys can work out the tempo and tone, and perfect the timing and balance, of silly and serious. So much can be done with the wry Island sensibility. (Or is that "rye" Island ?) All you guys need to do is swing the camera from from the shack to the sunset to bust a gut then break a heart. That's the thing about the Merry Times ain't it ... ya gotta laugh or you'll cry... Am I identifying a little too closely boys ? I'm pulling for ya!

This is not my sense of humour but this obviously is not for me, it's for people who "get it" namely eastern Canadians or people with that sense of humour, and they have obviously gotten good response from them. They seem to enjoy the work they are doing and are having fun. The production quality is fine. I actually do wish I thought this was funny it's just not my "cup of tea". At least I don't hate it (like some other videos I have seen). Good luck to you and everyone else.

While some of the humour isn't necessarily my cup of tea, it's hard to deny the chemistry between the leads and the personality certainly comes through. While I wish there was a little more to get hyped about in this video, it was well crafted, delivered and cut -- and that, in and of itself, I suppose, is something to get hyped about: There's some obvious talent both in front of and behind the camera on this one. Good stuff.

You want these guys to apologize for being popular? Some teams in this competition embrace their decidedly-Canadian roots and some don't. The ones that do get better local support. That's the reality. I would suggest you watch the web series Just Passing Through but I think you should start with MTV's boy band parody 2gether first. Or you could go back to cut and paste commenting.

    Jason's Photo
    Jason A. 2  posted 10 years ago

Thanks Dave. I've seen 4play - so we obviously have a very different sense as to why the world shuns Canadian TV. That said, we and some teams/friends have spent quite a few years working on online fan bases and its been to our favour. I think a lot of teams underestimate the work that was involved in that to capitalize on this opportunity when it came.

This could be fun. Sound and accents might be a challenge for a broader audience. Also characters will have to be developed and introduced to upper Canadian audience who may not know what DFO is or relationship of fishermen with folks who work in processing plants.

Good points Ed. Of course, more time means more elaboration on that stuff. And certainly to see a DFO character in action, for example, would go a long way in clarifying them.

Hate to be a wet blanket, but these are NOT East Coast accents. These guys are funny dudes and know how to exaggerate the local accent to make us Maritimers sound dumb, dumber, dumbest. Frankly, it's disturbing that others across the country think of this show as somehow authentic. It's an exaggeration, folks, and that's why it's funny. My trouble with it is that it's breathing lots of new life into all those stereotypes of East Coasters as dumb and dumber.

We're funny dudes born and bred in the east coast, creating TWO character not representative of anything but those TWO characters. I don't think maritimers (as one) are dumb at all. These two characters, though, are very dumb. Im also fairly certain that when people refer to its authenticity they mean even UNDER all of the parody and satire. Maybe you're having trouble seeing through that wet blanket?

Well, while its maybe not clear yet, the show is about big dreams and obstacles to them. It just happens to take place in a particular culture and region of Canada - the same way us maritimers can relate to shows being made anyway. The same way I can watch a film from any part of the world - set in a specific place with themes that are much more universal.

It'd likely be pretty appealing to other Maritimers, perhaps Newfoundlanders (that's four provinces right there, hardly a sliver of the rest of the country), or folks who enjoy the humour. Its a bit much to say no one else in Canada would like the show, or to say it would be boring. The content these guys have already put out is really funny stuff.

It didn't necessarily feature too many reasons as to why the media should cover the show, but then again I feel like your project's concept inherently tells people how it's unique; there aren't that many shows set on the island with island culture. This is my favourite of your videos so far. I want to not like your project because you're doing so well and we live at opposite coasts of this crazy country. But you don't let me not like you. I may not know exactly what your show will look like, but I know it will have lots of heart. You seem like great guys and your love for this project shines through every time!

Hey Kat - Ive mentioned this before. I think sometimes the videos may be crazier than the shows being pitched. The 90 second, must get favourites format sort of forces teams into those boxes a bit...or at least leads them in that direction. So, Id expect the videos for most teams to be a bit different than the end result.

Being from Newfoundland I feel comfortable watching this kind of production. What intrigued me was the fact that the "touch of the spiritual" was the father coming back as a seagull. I don't know about anybody else, but I would love to see that happen on CBC.

What I want for this piece is for it not to get lost in crazy town. It's easy for something like this to get out of hand really quickly. With all of the nonsense that could go down, I believe there should be an equal amount of the real. I want to see them fish, I want to see them have a taste of success and then loose it! I'm hopeful for this show!

Great video guys, hopefully the local Co-op's are stocked up on fresh fish, those fish FLASK are gonna be EVERYWHERE, I hear the slim from the fish lips also helps cure the common cold sores, or at least keeps them moisturized!!! Video also had lots of info about the show and what it will all be about!! Now just to show the rest of Canada what a RocK'N KITCHEN PARTY looks like!!!

I think we'll be heading to the next auditions for "Dragons Den" with our Fish-Flask prototype! Thanks for the glowing comments Sheldon! You're totally spot on with the fishlips cure-all! It cures even more than just cold sores! Ya heard how that Perch made Martins skin so soft after just a few scrapes across the skin, well Fishlips, especially those wrapped around a Schooner, can cure just about any ill!

good job. I am just not really getting all of the PEI jokes and I am not sure if the rest of Canada will either. But you guys are doing a good job and the front page of the sell sheet is eye catching.

We're glad you're keeping track of our project Carley t. And we appreciate your input. We're sold that our styles of laughs can connect in many ways with Canadians across the board.

Love you guys…you have the best (albeit grossest) ideas - "The Ol Fish Flask." Great sell sheet - I'm sold! Keep up the good work!

Thank you a bunch Deb C.! Glad you were sold on our Sell Sheet. And, ya gotta try a swig from the fish flask sometime! The hard stuff dis-infects and freshens any residual fishy-ness!
