Bike cooooops. Lol not a bad idea but could get old. Would have liked it more if it were spoofed on the RCMP and not just local city cops. Get that Red Canadian vibe in there

You would have loved it last night, Joel! One of the trivia questions at Meet the Bike Cops was "What is the acronym Spooner and Styles mess up in the first teaser?". It was hilarious listening to everyone shouting out different acronyms for a while before someone got it. TPBP in case you're wondering!

Definitely a lot of comedic potential with this one. While I do wish there was a little more to get hyped about in this video, it was still executed with style and personality -- and based on the personality on display here alone, I'd be staying tuned to see where Bike Cops goes. Hope to see more.

I have a hard time watching police acting like ditzes ... maybe renta cops but not real cops. Having said that you have some funny ideas. I hope the teams with the machines behind them on social media don't push the great ideas out of the top 15. Are you reading this CBC?

Alas, you might find the cops get even ditzier in our next video. We chose to animate Bike Cops as part of The Flip challenge, and animation lends itself to more zany, wacky jokes (big fan of Adventure Time) so we took that route this week. Hope you like it! Thanks for watching Alyse!

First off - I have a really hard time picturing Rob Ford having a bicycle (never mind riding one!). And are you sure it wasn't just stolen to pay for some drug deal! Sorry, those were my first thoughts when I read the snippet at the top of this page. Really like this idea - I am sure the characters could find many shenanigans to create some laughs - good luck with the top 15.

Thanks for watching Starla! Are you okay with one Spoiler of the first episode of Bike Cops? Well here goes! The mayor of Toronto in our show is actually a woman! Think Melissa McCarthy. But she rides a wicked-sweet chopper-style bicycle. As for the stolen to pay for a drug deal part, who knows??

I really enjoyed the hype video it definitely has potential. I just don't want it to be dumb things every episode of the bike cops getting drugged accidentally or stereotypical comedy idiot cop things, but if it is typical cop idiot things do it in a funny new way like how funny 21 and 22 jump street was but new from that since it's been done already?? I dunno I want it to do well but it just don't want to see the same thing again.

We've all been tricked by cop-premise shows or movies that were supposed to be funny but weren't because they were too ridiculous. Personally, I didn't like the Police Academy movies because of that. But, like you Kathryn, I loved 21 and 22 Jump Street because the directors/writers Phil Lord and Christopher Miller (of The Lego Movie) used the cop premise to tell new and hilarious jokes. That's what we want to do! I also promise that in next week's video you won't be seeing the same thing...

Bike Cops is a really fun show idea. I love the idea that the show's tension is built around such a ridiculous concept. It's high stakes, but it keeps it's levity. Great production value and funny idea!

You mentioned in some of your replies that what sets you apart is the size of your cast- it would be great to get to know some of the characters a little more! I know it's super difficult to plug everything you'd like into a 90 second video AND cover the mission requirements, but maybe you can incorporate a bunch of info and pictures in the "Optional Images" section for us.
Hope to see the T.B.D.T.T.P.D.D.B.D. in the Top 15!

Hey Ryan, thanks for watching and thanks for the feedback! That's a really good idea. We haven't even been able to cast the entire show, so we don't have photos of what each character looks like, but we know in our minds. We'll definitely take your suggestion and post photos in the Optional Images that will give you an idea of the other characters. In the meantime, how about a character name list? I won't include all the peripheral characters, but here are the main ones:

    Const. Eric Spooner
    Det. Lauren Bell
    Const. Glen Styles
    Const. Jessica Rice
Det. Ryan Palmer (Lauren's ex partner)
    Sgt. Hughes
    Polina the Mechanic
    Mayor McKinley

Hope to see (and know we will see) Campus Law in the Top 15. You guys have been making me laugh since day 1 and I know you'll keep doing it when I'm watching your show on TV! Thanks again Ryan.

Hey guys, strong video this week! My only critique is that there's not much humor in it, but I think that's perfectly okay given the mission statement. You did a very strong job explaining to the media what the competition is and professionally articulating why you think your show should get covered. Good luck with the Top 15!

I really want to love Bike Cops, you guys are super likeable, and your teaser was one of my favourites, but as the weeks progress I'm feeling more and more lukewarm. Its cute, but a little lacklustre. I'd really like to see more of what I saw in the teaser. Maybe if the ComedyCoup challenges were more about the show and less about selling it, you'd get to show more of the show (HINT HINT ComedyCoup!). Definitely a fair opinion! If you're still interested in the difference in the dynamic between Bike Cops and Campus Law, check out my comment below to Jas. It might clear things up a bit. As for trying to adapt something new, I think you'll love this coming week's mission. It's all about flipping the concept of the show around. Stay tuned and thanks for watching.

    Jas J. 2  posted 10 years ago

There's a lot of good stuff in this contest, and my fear for you guys is that you're too similar to "Campus Law." Whereas they've carved out a niche for themselves in the college brat pack, you're a bit more broad, and I don't know if that works to your favour or against it. I think the fact that it's "Bike Cops" also makes it very similar to the Paul Blart movies, which people don't associate with quality. "Campus Law" is probably better associated with "21 Jump Street," and "Superbad" - movies that have received some critical positivity. I think that moving forward you have to establish what really makes your show different (a strong female presence, for instance), and who specifically you're trying to appeal to.

    Marshall J. 4  posted 10 years ago

Thanks for the feedback Jas, as always, you make some interesting points. Keep in mind, the tagline for this competition is "Finding new forms of funny", not ""Finding niche forms of funny". You're absolutely correct that the Campus Law formula is hilarious, and has been proven over the years to work. The three-buddy setup has been funny from Workaholics all the way back to The Three Stooges, and we love Campus Law.

Our show is different than Campus Law because it has a broader cast. There are 7 main characters, and around 4 peripheral characters, which our viewers haven't even met yet. Is it a more ambitious and, as you put it, "broad" way of telling stories? Yes. But shows with larger and/or more diverse casts like Arrested Development or Community have the ability of telling more complicated and layered stories, which shows like Workaholics or movies like Superbad can't.

Appreciate the comment Jas, you've given us lots to think about!

this sounds like a really awesome idea, like a bike cop, Canadian version of Brooklyn Nine Nine! It seems great, but "diverse cast"? I only saw 1 non-white actor, and while it's great you have 2 women, does it really represent the diversity in Toronto? Anyway, if you guys get to make the show, you'll have to do an episode that is a spoof on The Wire.

Glad to hear you like it, Sarah! And I agree; this doesn't accurately depict just how diverse the show will be. There are characters in our script that we haven't filmed yet, such as Quinn, the hyper charismatic Chinese 17 year old intern who loves to take jabs at the bike cops. Hopefully we get to introduce more of these characters in the next few weeks! Thanks for watching!

    Thanks Dad!
We really use the term 'professional' loosely around here. Thanks for the support!

Like the shorts and the fact that you guys laughed at yourselves after the great pointing scene! I understand comedy coup wants to see all the professionalism behind the scenes (which you have!) but as a viewer I'm looking forward to seeing more skits/episodes etc! Keep up the great work! I think it's a concept that can go a long way!

Excellent media pitch – definitely one of the most professional ones on the site. I thought you managed a perfect blend of straight-up selling with good cuts from your earlier videos and the right amount of funny. Good luck – I hope you make the next cut!

Video did an awesome job of not only show casing the project, but explaining comedy coup, so smart!
Not crazy about the sell sheet design/layout, but great job:)

I remember one time when I got stopped by bike cops. I was riding on the sidewalk on the wrong side of the street. I thought they were going to give me a ticket, but they just gave me a warning.

Anyway, I hope to see a lot of high speed bike chases!

My brother and I once got stopped for jay walking by a bike cop. He didn't give us a ticket but I remember how hard it was not to laugh since that was the first time I'd ever seen a bike cop.

The video was shot nicely, very direct and to the point, but it was kinda stuck in low speed to say as far as laughter was concerned, just didn`t have the funny factor to it, although short shorts are always funny. Good luck with you Hype event on Sunday

Thanks for watching Sheldon, we're with you. We'd rather see more Bike Cops antics than just our silly talking faces. Next week is all about the show though, so we'll be bringing all the laughs! Hope to see you on Sunday.

Great video, very clear and to the point. I enjoyed how you still managed to add new humour to this weeks mission by putting in the shorts bit at the end. Looking good guys. Oh, and congrats for getting an article published in the Humber press.

Thanks for another great comment Christina! We tried to keep it short and sweet this week, pun very intended. And we love Humber! One of our producers attended there, and Ted has acted in a short film produced by Humber.

This is a great video. It is engaging, fast paced, creative and professional! I especially liked the scene putting on the bike gloves and the suits and ties with spandex bike shorts!

Best hand motions since 'Too Legit 2 Quit' by MC HAMMER. And thanks for the bike shorts reveal at the end. I am a fan. Good Luck. #BeABuddyGuy

How many times did you rehearse the hand dance at the end? :) To the point - just like cops - just the facts mame, just the facts.
