Project Overview

Dépflies

A bilingual sitcom about a family run dépanneur in Montréal and its regulars.

Montréal, QC

7.87 (609)

Week #1 Show Teaser Dépflies

A quick glimpse of the DÉPFLIES in their natural habitat, waxing poetic and dreaming while dwelling in the "Dép". When the regulars show up, we see the wild madness that permeates the banal nature of the job, and the spirit of “anything can happen”.

Synopsis

A "Dépfly", like a barfly (defined as a person who spends too much time drinking in bars) spends too much time drinking at the local dépanneur (Québec's version of a convenience store).

Peter is a romantic dreamer who loves "rap rock" and co-owns a dépanneur with his sisters, Marie-Claude & Marie-Isa. His best friends Roger & Zoe relentlessly enable his adventurer spirit much to the chagrin of his much more stable and hard-working sisters. A varying group of regulars constantly stream through the dép, bringing with them all and every form of calamity.

The show delves into the many subcultures of Montréal and paints a hilarious and heart-warming picture of contemporary Québec.

It has a Clerks vibe - which is to say a sort of slacker-king assurance that can be hilarious. Obviously the guys are fully content with their lives (as shown), and Montreal is a place that really attracts all kinds of wild types from Quebec and all around the country. I like taking the bi-lingual step, because such exchanges happen so it's good to see them represented.

The premise allows for the main characters to interact with the craziest of Montreal (and Canada's) citizens and could easily pull a 22 minute special, and beyond that maybe a season or two of content to anyone brave enough to show the franglais. I can definitely laugh along with the characters, and don't find it odd to buy beer in a corner store. Good luck!
