Adventures and stories from Canada's Western Arctic, told by three aspiring sketch comedians.
View ProjectFor our third challenge, we wanted to give you a glimpse into what 'North of Normal' could look like. With more time and an actual budget, we would explore new ideas for segments and incorporate guest hosts and characters along with a musical element included in each episode. Also check our additional content for more of what our show would look like and how we #BeDifferent. Yo.
Fave 34 Views 592I enjoyed it, good life happens comedy, you head out to do one thing and end up doing something else. It is a different idea but good for a sitcom so it seems like a workable idea. Nice snow already so it will pass for canadian humour.

Week#3 Comments - North of Normal - Young, funny, well spoken and desperate actors. Like the #beards Funny how the actors made friends with the dude that owned the place they broke into. Will watch for more.
I saw a film once about a dragon who breathed fire then it turned into steam because he drank water... Great stuff keep it up and good luck in comedy coup
some real potential here.. made me laugh out loud
Congratulations on making it to the Top 55! You guys are doing a great job at keeping in the run and really showing great enthusiasm over your project. I really believe in you guys and want to see this thru to the end. Best of luck moving into the top 15.
i have really enjoyed all the work so far, each video keeps getting better. Great concept idea and performances. I like lots of stuff in there. Lots of good ideas, some not bad acting.Good luck.
Ooh, sketch. Havent seen too much of this.Screwdriver part was funny. Congrats on making the top 55 and good luck in the rest of the voting. Wishing you the best in the competition, your good friend Sharon.
Way to go on your comedy coup efforts to date. You have succeeded in making it to the top 55 and that is something to be proud of. Already the competition is getting tough as the quality of the competitors gets refined. Best wishes for making it to the next level.
If you are receiving this comment then you are one of my top 15 favorites in this comedycoup.cbc.ca contest and you are congratulated for making the top 55 and doing a really good job on all the missions to date. That has been a lot of work so congratulations on your efforts!
Congratulations on making the top 55! Enjoying the humor and acting was pretty good too. Best of luck for the top 15! I liked the screwdriver bit... get it bit hahaha
There's plenty of competition, and trying to focus so much comedy into so small an orifice will be very hard to maintain in a multi season series. Will be surprised to see this one in the next round of voting, but talented film makers can still pull it off! Good luck!
i really love the setting, as some of the other commenters have said. there has never been a show on cbc (or anyone, i dont think, except for maybe the dicovery channel) that has showcase this part of canada. i would love to see it for that reason alone. we deserve to get to know this part of our nation. nice work guys.
it is very unique to see this part of canada. definitely an under represented portion of the nation and i would be very curious to see it
I would love to see a sitcom that features this part of Canada. I think it would be interesting to see how the storyline would progress, as you would be able to bring in the culture and the cold in a humorous way. Keep up the creativity!
It was a little slow and don't like that the sound wasn't very good. That is the negative, the positive is that you guys are likable and I think that this show is in a different place, talking about different things, doing different jokes in a different style from other entries.
As someone who lives in downtown Toronto i'd really like to back this project as it would reflect a part of the nation that we don't hear much about. I disagree with the earlier comment made about the break in scene bot being funny. Personally, I laughed out loud when the guy came in and asked about the 'level up'. I can so relate to that as my roommates play video games. I didn't really get the wizard puppet part. I think focus more on the funny aspects of life in your town and we will enjoy it more.
Definitely how I would see a true W.o.W player react. The sidetracking I think got a bit much sidetracked here, but I get it nonetheless and I see where it was going. Like your first 2 better.
Certainly different - new location, new characters from a part of the country we hear very little about. Maybe things could have been a bit clearer but Im engaged nonetheless.
I am a little confused about your story. Robbing people's houses, being friends with them... I know some shows are just shows and don't make sense, but in this week #3 video, I just don't get it. Good luck; i did like the 2 first ones better.
we are a sketch show, the first bit was the introduction from the commercial, and we went into a sketch about getting sidetracked. thanks!
What to say? What to say, indeed!!! Well, I've definitely seen better. But judging by what's on TV these days. I've definitely seen a whooole lot worse! Like damn near every reality show! Just keep on keepin' on.
This is some funny stuff. I totally relate to the grocery store rant and love the halloween mask. Wish I could have made it to the chilli day
It's really cool that there's someone in the contest from way up north. It's a really unique perspective!
Good work guys on representing the north and being out there. I laugh at these when I see them and that is what will keep you going.
Good luck with this project. I am voting for another team but think your stuff is great. keep up the good work in this contest.
Thank you for the support!
what's funny is that is how a WoW addict would act... love it.
Definitely unique with a quick zap at the end. I liked it!
Keep the puppets coming! And I like the type of northern humour you guys bring to the table. Never thought that was a thing, but i guess I know now!
Enjoy the humour you guys are bringing and the northern twist on things. Looking forward to more videos and watching the evolution of your skills!
I've never been to Inuvik but looks like you guys have PS4 up there.. sweet!
but they travel with dog sleds, and only the super rich have snow mobiles and cars.
We get our games a week or so back, some times much longer. But yes, HD TVS, ps4s and ice lattes.
You guys keep getting better, that's no easy feat. More puppets!!
Thanks! It means a lot to us that we're still in this!
Not too shabby my friends. I think you can probably bring a new light to this idea and be a little more creative with it as well. Also, production quality definitely needs some more improvement but that is just my opinion. Good luck on the future endeavours.
#TwoDoors!! Haha great job North of Normal! I would love to see more exterior shots like the EPIC opening in your week 2 video. Other than that there were alot of laughs. We're routing for you here in MTL!
Yeah, I can totally see that happening. All of it. Good stuff! Good luck in the finals!
I enjoyed it, good life happens comedy, you head out to do one thing and end up doing something else. It is a different idea but good for a sitcom so it seems like a workable idea. Nice snow already so it will pass for canadian humour.
I love the idea of mockumercials - something Rick Mercer does well and I'd like to see more of
I love aboriginal humour. It is lovely, expressive and can be quite riddling. First Nations friends of mine love taking English words and twisting them to sound similar to a word in their language - word play. I would like to see the writers making use of this for this project. Mainstream pop culture humour is not what I am looking for in a new CBC comedy series. Nor would I want to see standard pedestrian jokes which are left over or based on previous comedy shows or sketches. I would like to see comedy come from situations involving a food gathering party, hunting party, and other outdoor situations.
Like I mentioned earlier, I think the comedy is very workable and unique with the backdrop of NWT. I hope you guys will show more of your comedy that's influenced from your area. I don't know why, but I am very interested in seeing more of the environment that makes your comedy unique and funny. Plus, I'd definitely pay more attention to your audio. It is always the biggest issue with my project.
How did I not notice that there was an entry from my hometown!?! Looks interesting, good luck guys! I'll be watching how you do.
An Inuvik boy!! Awesome. Who was your teacher at SAMS?
This will have a special place in the contest being almost as North as is gets for Canada. People really get behind their provinces (or territories). :)
We're as high as you can get by road! Thanks for the comment!
I like the way this film goes haywire from the puppet to the robbery to the friendly robbed man. Excellent stream of consciousness filmmaking
Love a good sketch show
Funny! Like it a lot ! Each week i'm excited to see what your team came up with !
Funny sketch!
Great work boy's...from the dry meat sketch, FB, and then this one...they just keep getting funnier.
I encourage all to check them out if not already!
Good luck!
Each week I see the passion and excitement building in your videos. There is such a jumble of ideas in each video and a vast array of sketches. It gives a wide sense of the ideas the group has. Careful the talent doesn't get lost in chaos. Look forward to more to come.
really funny!
Hahaha, I can almost see that happening for real! :-) I went back to your Facebook page, and I have to say I like the "Sick" video and "Therapy" video the best. Cheers!
Really great job guys!! The stories that you guys have are hilarious, can't wait to see more of them!! Getting excited to see what comes next!!!
I agree with the one comment with the character aspect because the story of how these characters get to know one another is hilarious. Great job, keep it up.
Best one yet guys
It's really great to see a team so far out of a city centre doing this. Great extra content/pictures uploaded. These two look like the dumbest robbers ever. Love that they guty was more concerned about the high score though!
Keep doing a great job guys (son Cali).
Good luck One Pack Wolf Team!!!
Awesome job guys!
good luck guys!
It's great that you guys have managed to in the competition so far as you are the only ones from the NWT. I thought the joke about the 2 doors was great. I'm wondering though, will all your sketches be completely different, or will they keep the same characters as so the audience gets a sense of who they are and then have some sort of story to follow? Good luck with the competition guys!
Hi! Thanks for the feedback. We're building the whole 'North of Normal' universe as we speak, figuring out the format. More to come and check our Facebook page for our other sketches!
Hahaha so awesome you're videos keep getting better and better ! Keep it up guys :)
Two doors!@? That was good! I'm hoping to hold hands with you guys as we walk into the top 50! - Shirts
The six of us, holding hands through the pearly #Top55 gate!! I see it now. Thanks Justin! From the Arctic Coast to the Manitoba River, WE GOT THIS!
