Synopsis

Fledgling private detective Jason Cartwright’s moral compass is pointing in all directions. A cute and clueless go-getter, Jason has recently opened up his own shop in order to solve the biggest mystery of all: himself.
Meanwhile a crime wave is consuming the city of Montreal. Cat-kidnappings, fake alien landings, and a spate of bubble-wrap related murders, are keeping Jason plenty busy. Ray Kosmanski, Jason’s comically balding, self-proclaimed millionaire ex-mentor seems to always be one step ahead.

The pieces just don’t add up.

With the help of Sven, his sometimes clairvoyant assistant and book keeper, Jason Cartwright P.I. is on the case.

Jacob Greco's Profile Image

Jacob Greco

Writer, Talent

Consensual romantic. Amateur stand-up comedian. Pro cry-baby. Big into jokes and bits, spoofs and goofs, as well as a nice giggle fest now and then. I run two weekly comedy shows in Montreal, I write sketches, I do improv, and I eat chili throughout the entire year because it's wonderful.

Paul Naiman's Profile Image

Paul Naiman

Marketing / Social, Talent

Paul Naiman is actually a pretty nice guy, despite what toddlers and women he comes in contact with may say. He enjoys paragliding, welding, and using evaporated milk whenever he can. When he is not doing Comedy Coup or hanging out at the bus station, Paul is a writer, actor, improvisor, and standup based in Montreal.

Stefan Petersen's Profile Image

Oh hi, my name is Stefan. I'm an Aries as well as a volunteer comedy artist. I studied the Meisner Technique for a bunch of years and have a cool certificate in Television Directing from the National Institute of Image and Sound (INIS). I am way too into improv, stand-up and quilting!

While this presentation is better than a great deal of other submissions, I'm not really sold on it. An okay premise, a young upstart Montreal detective/PI poorly working the beat (or maybe he'll be funny and good like Brooklyn Nine-Nine?) and meeting an evil match. Honestly, any suggestions I would have would probably drastically change the show in your eyes, like to make it more 'Noir' and maybe have an older lead as the detective so the ineptitude is funnier. Or perhaps the character simply needs a 'Cornfed' to his 'Duckman' in this firm, to allow for false sense of success and pride.

Keep working at it, and I'm sure you can do even better with the tools you have here and could do some serious competition in the further rounds.

Could be a funyy concept if they get creative with the different events the private guy encounters.

The cinematography reminded me of the BBC Sherlock right off the bat. I like Paul's character a lot. More 70's leisure suits! You have no idea how nice it was to watch this video after suffering through a bunch of . . . other videos at random. There's also a really clear idea of what the plot/conflict is, which is something seriously lacking in a lot of the other videos. And you're actually funny, instead of smugly suggesting you're funny! (Seriously. Watch, like, five other videos at a time, max.) You guys are good. An oasis of good. Now I've gotta go to bed so I can stop watching videos.
