Jai Sugrim stars as Sexy Yoga Man in this scene of THE DANGERS OF ONLINE DATING.

Jai is a world renowned certified Jivamukti Yoga teacher, currently living and working in New York City. He took a bit of convincing, but we managed to get him on board. You can catch his TV show, "Yoga Sutra Now: With Jai Sugrim" on various stations in the USA, or on YouTube.

(He also has a world series ring from that time he was the massage therapist for the New York Yankees.)

Ooo Jai, My Sexy Yoga Guy

Ooo Jai, My Sexy Yoga Guy

Singer/song-writer Jenna Mae Togado wrote and sang the original song "Sexy Yoga Man" specifically for this scene with show creator Brianne Nord-Stewart. Be sure to catch her show along the BC Sea to Sky route! The man behind the music production is one Kyle McCrae. Brianne and Kyle go way way back to the grade 10 basketball court. She was even invited to his mom's wedding last summer. Now that's friendship.

OK, so the upside is that the casting is quite solid and the concept will appeal to a narrow but advertiser friendly demographic. The downside is that I'm not sure I see the comedy aspect, unless it's 'train wreck' type humor. I worry that soon we will be laughing at and not with all of the characters except for the perfect instructor. I admit that in only 1.5 min it's tough to allay these concerns so I look forward to the next clip.

Definitely made me laugh but I would've liked to see more about what makes this show different from other "rom com sitcoms" out there. I like that it seems edgier than most but it's not enough to really stand out as something new. Hoping to see more about what makes this show unique in future videos.

Maybe it's just me, but I thought that the whole traditional role-reversal was amusing. Either that, or I just grew up on a lot of TV where the opposite (male fixated on the female yoga instructor) occurred and the same fantasy was constructed, albeit with reversed roles. Unless you were going for something else; otherwise enjoyed!

It's well shot, and nice to have an original song in there, but this is a comedy competition, and I'm just not seeing the funny at all. Someone has the hots for her yoga instructor and says she's going to ask him out at the end of the clip. And the punchline is...where?

I liked your previous two videos, this one seemed a bit off to me. It was a short scene in a way and not so much talking or showing how you are different than any other show. It caught attention because of the nature the fact it was watching good looking people doing yoga but I found it wasn't as humorous as your other videos. I wish you highlighted the mission goal in how you would be different, I am still left wondering.

This third week video was very good. I enjoyed watching it because it was shot well, edited with cleverness, and great use of music with the visuals. But, since I must "critique" for badges, I stopped believing this was a comedy. There was many moments that could have used humour without taking away from the power of this video. I hope that this show moves forward and doesn't miss out on any opportunities to keep me smiling.

Like most people already mentioned, I'm not sure how well this video captured the spirit of the mission. However, with that being said, in doing this kind of video, you *did* differentiate yourself from the other contestants by showcasing a lot of action/scene versus the usual funny commentary. So, I think we were able to see what is funny about the show, and why it is different than the others, by witnessing the humor and funny awkward fantasies in action.

I have to admit that your videos are very well put together; acting is very spot on too, especially this week's video, like someone mentioned, it is very good concept with very little talking and a lot of action; However, i do have the same feeling as many others that you missed this week's mark. And i also question about if the video is put together for the mission; cant help to notice one thing -- picture you guys put up with the clapper-- is that july 17, 2012 ?

Though, regardless, this project has potential, and i would like to see more what you can do in terms of mission. good luck !

This video is kind of confusing to me. ...why so much time spent on yoga with close-ups of bodies moving? In a longer video a minute of that would be absolutely effective, but in such little time, I feel like the potential of the show could have been better demonstrated with a little more character engagement.

I enjoyed the song but I'm not sure the video lands for me. It's weird, but I don't think this competition is suited to the sort of product you're trying to sell. If this was well made, I'd watch 22 minutes of it per week but these 2 min videos don't do the concept justice. I'm worried that some people will pass this over just cause the short videos aren't super hilarious/filled with jokes. To those people I say: Watch carefully and really think about the sorts of shows that end up on television. This is a great, great concept that can sustain itself for multiple seasons while also striking a unique comedic tone.

I just wish I could see the character development and dialogue that a whole season would produce.

    Good luck!

    Hey gang!

I've been digging this concept since the start. I like how "auteur"ist it feels, and I'm loving the production values and the overall quality of the missions. You even had a song written especially for this week! You guys are serious, that's for sure. Keep up the good work. My one note would be that, especially this week, the image is a bit on the dark side -- is that on purpose or a transcoding issue?

This scene looked amazing. Well shot, the lighting was beautiful, but I don't feel that you successfully completed the challenge with this. There are plenty of relationship dramas out there and I feel this could be a scene in many of them; although it does look well produced even compared to a high budget show.

I didn't really feel that this video helped to properly showcase what exactly it is that makes your show idea different. It was cute and kind of sexy I guess, but felt relatively safe. I'd like to see something a bit more outrageous and modern in terms of the humour your guys are using.

Nice juxtaposition of images depicting her fantasies and the reality of the class and the other things going on right under her nose!!! Love the editing and music. Did she lick his chest? Or was I hallucinating again??? Looking forward to more!!!

While I agree with many of the comments about the scene being sexy, I also thought it was hilarious. The awkwardness of her reality vs her fantasy makes it much funnier than sexy, IMHO. The ending made me laugh not just because of the awkwardness of the actions but also because the way it was cut to her saying "I think I'm going to ask him out" showed that the character might not even be aware of how she acted; she thought that her actions were simply in her fantasy. Good luck!

Impressed by the yoga moves, and the soundtrack in the background was perfect. I feel you could have taken the comedy aspect a little further, more day dream moments or what she would do with him alone in the class, or make the contrast between his adjustments and what she thinks she is receiving more contrasting. Good to see that you have variety in your show as this video is different to the others in some respects. Good luck!

A very sexy scene but not superfunny, I would have had her nipple bite a bit earlier, she deals with it and so on, so we can see how using new age stuff and sexiness is funny in a new way. Also, was hoping to see how the on-line dating phenomenon can be skewered, which to me is the originality of this series. Excited to see where it go!

Hi Lisa-Marie. We're here to make a show that people enjoy watching and instead of focussing on me the filmmaker (ME) for every mission. I chose to show you more of the world of the show. Not the world behind the show.

For the #hypeit mission, I promise to show everyone a lot of mine, and other people's, talking heads. We wouldn't want to show any more original content or anything.

great production value... and very funny. But if what other are saying is true, that this wasn't made specifically for the mission, I am DEFINATELY dissapointed.. i know that many projects put HOURS of work into their week 3 videos, all for a 90 second video... if you guys just regurgitated a video, i would say you dont have what it takes for this competiton, cause if others can put out great work while going to school and working and being mothers and fathers, and you guys dont have the time, how will you have the time when it's needed most?

    Hi Montana,

I'm in the business of writing original characters and stories and capturing them with great production value so that people laugh. So I'm glad you saw that and thought it was was funny.

As far as I can recall, putting together that scene took COUNTLESS hours of many many people's time, including the writing and production of an original song.

And being the creator/writer/director/editing of the show, I can guarantee you, that I make A LOT of time for my work, all of which to this point, has been independently produced. By me, and independent filmmaker, who makes films for a living. I think my resume shows my dedicated without waver.

For the #hypeit mission, I promise to show everyone a lot of mine, and other people's, talking heads.

It was great to see more of your show, but I have to agree with what has already been said. It really seems like you've just completely avoided the mission question, didn't even try to even answer it in the write up on the side. It really feels like you already had this footage made and for convenience just used it rather than taking the time to actually say what makes you unique. I've enjoyed what you guys have done so far, I wouldn't want to see you taken out of the competition for not really doing at all what was asked. Good luck guys!

i have been following you guys for a while, and i think the reason why you are not really answering the question why you are different is probably cuz you didn't really shoot this for this mission, but use the clip from whatever competition you were in here. Kinda little disappointed here for that part of the laziness. though, good video, and nicely shot with good pace

Hey Alison, I completely disagree with your implication that The Dangers Of Online Dating team was lazy on the week 3 challenge to #BeDifferent. Nothing "lazy" about this, actually. It takes the onus off of you and me, the audience, to imagine what the producers are talking about. The #DOOD crew do all the hard work for us, and SHOW us exactly what their project is, instead of TELLing us (aka the standard talking head). They responded creatively to the challenge, and specifically, they kept us engaged with the actual story instead of misdirecting our attention by focussing on the storytellers. Kudos to Brianne, Paula et al for challenging the status quo (boring) and providing something different (awesome)!

Honestly team, at this point you could just film everyone wearing brown paper bags making lawnmower sounds and it would be hilarious. The writing may be questionable. The work you've put into the writing and script shows with every misson.
