Week #6 The Flip Welcome To Tulip

Welcome to Tulip has bigger problems. Debt schmet! People are dying! Basically, everyone is dying! ONE BY ONE. Watch the 3 lead characters Riccardo DiBankaba, Jackie Cassidy, and Davinda Cassidy attempt to uncover the killer and get this little theatre town back to a more vibrant state of affairs.

Wow...laughed out loud so hard when Jackie Cassidy walked into the fence. This week's vid is so original, so funny and so unique! You guys are loaded with talent...amazing writing this week... and you are showing so much range...I can only imagine the places you are all going to go! Congrats you guys!

PRIME MEAT - Riccardo DiBankaba

PRIME MEAT - Riccardo DiBankaba

Riccardo is still that young lad who is looking for a place to belong. When he arrives in Tulip he discovers it doesn't have the promising future he anticipated. Death and strange behaviour lurks in every corner. Will he be able to turn this theatre town around? Who wants to come to a town where both patrons and residents are dying off? Why the carrot calling card? Don't worry, in this series he doesn't die off in the first episode, but this town takes him on an adventure that no other town you know will!

PRIME PSYCHO - Jackie Cassidy

PRIME PSYCHO - Jackie Cassidy

Jackie is washed up, I mean washed out. Well, both. The theatre seats are dusty because no one wants to see her do a soliloquy for 2 hours and THEY DON'T WANT TO DIE! This town is driving her to madness and she is scouting everyone out. Anyone could be the killer! Oh and why the pyjamas? Well, she figures if she is gonna die at some point, she might as well die comfortable.

PRIME DOUBLE TROUBLE - Davinda Cassidy

PRIME DOUBLE TROUBLE - Davinda Cassidy

Oh yes! This woman exists. She is strong, bold, and sexy. David Cassidy (played by Frank Nickel in previous videos) thought that the town killer was targeting the local townsfolk. So he got a sex change. He wanted to be unrecognizable. Low and behold: Davinda Cassidy. But....then a visiting patron died and well that blew that senseless sex change out of the bath water. Oh well, WOMEN RULE! Now with a new identity she is going balls to the wall on finding out how to solve this tragic crime. Oh, and actor Julia Church plays Davinda this week!

PRIME WEIRDOS

PRIME WEIRDOS

This is a weird concept. We know. It may have thrown some of you for a loop, especially if you have been in LOVE with our concept that we are pitching to ComedyCoup and CBC. Know that we love our original vision but we also love playing and trying something totally different. We have infused our FLIP IT concept with a bit of murder mystery dinner theatre, ghost town stories, and a whole lot of funny feeling goosebumps. This is still all in our own fun, fresh and lighthearted tone. Hope you had a good laugh!
Fave 36   Share 3

PRIME FLIP OUT

PRIME FLIP OUT

Behind the scenes this week was insanity. We ran into the woods, got lost, got found, had a 'Wizard of Oz' windstorm, lighting, blackout, and a freaked out puppy whining at our feet. We also loved filming something totally different. It pushed us as storytellers and it was a great mission for giving us a new way to look at our concept. In the end, we are proud the video and can't wait to incorporate some thematic genres into our series. Like we said before in Week 3, the surreal is to be expected.

funny and original, I liked the use of the fence for comedic purposes, that was a nice touch. The topiary and graphics added nice moments of pop that I liked. I would suggest you always incorporate some aspect of the tulip flower in your future videos, somewhere in the background, in a painting on the wall, something like that. David Lynchian possibilities there! good luck*

It is essential to do so as it produces consistency and gives value to all aspects of the product. We are thrilled that the video we created also showcases the effort we have put in behind the scenes as well. We are fortunate that we have excellent communication between creators in order for us to wear multiple hats every week. it is not easy, but we live for it daily. Glad that is shining!

    Holly's Photo
    Holly P. 10  posted 10 years ago

Yes, from the moment we saw the mission we decided that it was better to show the audience our concept rather than tell you it. It is so much stronger, especially for who we are as creators. We are storytellers who want to create a world in which you can follow. It was important to us that we treated this mission like we we did for Week 1. Thinking, if this was our original concept, how would we want to best represent that? And yes a lot of effort went into this week's video. Balance and our drive pushed us daily.

    Wendel's Photo

The pollution of innocence is such a great horror trope ... but it's never been more innocent than a cuddly stick horse! Evil clowns, evil dolls, evil children... Been/done/bought the tee shirt, and they never even really worked as a pollution of innocence trope, because clowns and dolls and kids are terrifying enough at the best of times.

But even M. Night Shyamalan just pooped his pants when he found out Sticky was the killer all along!

(PS: I seriously hope you have a better name for the horse than Sticky, because that's the only one I could come up with. But bear in mind that you're talking to a guy who once wrote a private eye character named Frank Fedora and an action movie star named Max-Ram Target.)

Well good thing we went with the horse voice we used. It was more goofy and cartoony. Some of the other options were genuinely scary. Like little kids singing it and this super deep muffled voice. But they all worked! They just gave the video a totally different vibe. I like what we went with.

I really loved your video this week. It was one of the first ones I watched cause of your thumbnail, I knew it would be horror based with the writing! haha everyone loves a good comedy/horror. It was great to see the characters in that setting as it is so totally different, and I thought the acting was honestly your best yet! I loved how Holly and Gio were so serious and I felt as though Julia was the comic relief of this video, it worked so well. The music was also super creepy and worked so well with it.

I loved how you did another trailer shows a lot of hard work instead of explaining your flipit video like many teams did this week! Love the creativity! Congratulations on making the top 15 it was definitely deserved!!!! Also, glad I got to meet you at the hype it event this weekend! I see your project going places no matter what!

Thank you Justine! It was very imortant to us to stay consistent within our style of humour and the content we want to deliver. We're happy to see that it was successful and evident to our viewing audience. This week was a wonderful oppurtunity to give our fans what they love but also win over the people who were sitting on the fence. Glad to have you with us on this journey!

    Holly's Photo
    Holly P. 8  posted 10 years ago

Well said Justine! I got to be honest I have never seen "Children of Corn" because I am a huge scaredy cat when it comes to horror. Being on the other side of the camera is so much easier. Plus, I got to run through the woods all by myself for 5 minutes being terrified with a camera in my hand. THAT WAS SOOOOO FUN!!! I could of gone for hours. We are tickled pink that even though we flipped our show, our new content is still consistent with our original vision. We love stretching ourselves as writers, actors, producers and filmmakers. So glad it is translating!
