Two wharf rats dream of bein' the best fishermen on PEI. All they need is a boat and some brains.
View ProjectRobbie and Dennis give ya a lil' taste of what's to come while out on the boat for a rip.
Fave 78 Views 1976Thanks for speaking for the rest of the country, Bill. The rest of us on PEI find people that want to speak for everyone else extremely dull and boring. Looking forward to seeing your show.

Haha "Big Naughts", these guys are pretty goofy. Love the Maritimes and nice to see another good-looking show come out of there again. Last one I saw was the "The grand seduction" in friend and they had a bit similar comedy but with the typical franco-humour, which is quite goofy but more sexually orientated. The sperm whale joke was a nice touch in htere though.
Thanks for the comment Luke.
That's fishin dude
Thanks Curtis
Creative; that is my rating for this video after careful consideration and review so that I might meet the one hundred character requirement and earn another merit badge in the comedy coup competition.
Thanks Mullet.
I hereby state that the following commentary is over the required 100 characters and is as follows: love it!
Thanks Rachel!
love the twists and intelligence in the humour - way to go Rats!
Thanks Kele.
I can't get enough of the east coast accent. Love it. Could have used a bit of a change of scenery during the video, but it was all worth it in the end to see the boat was on land. Too funny!
Thans Snap - it was sooooo cold outside that day we wanted to stay inside. In some shots you can see blue lips.
You guys have one of the best Ideas I have seen in this competition! Congratulations on making it this far! if my friends don't win this thing. I'm pulling for you guys for sure!
Thanks Jason!
Whatever happens during the next voting rounds I hope you guys will continue working on this project. It has a lot of potential. Yes it trades in broad stereotypes but the relationship between the clueless Martin and the dimmer Hughie is a goldmine. Lots of space for laughs and tenderness. With time I believe you guys can work out the tempo and tone, and perfect the timing and balance, of silly and serious. So much can be done with the wry Island sensibility. (Or is that "rye" Island ?) All you guys need to do is swing the camera from from the shack to the sunset to bust a gut then break a heart. That's the thing about the Merry Times ain't it ... ya gotta laugh or you'll cry... Am I identifying a little too closely boys ? I'm pulling for ya!
Thanks Shane. You hit it on the head.
Thanks Shane. Its certainly a work in process and we hope to keep working on it.
This is not my sense of humour but this obviously is not for me, it's for people who "get it" namely eastern Canadians or people with that sense of humour, and they have obviously gotten good response from them. They seem to enjoy the work they are doing and are having fun. The production quality is fine. I actually do wish I thought this was funny it's just not my "cup of tea". At least I don't hate it (like some other videos I have seen). Good luck to you and everyone else.
Thanks Anisa. Thats good enough for us.
This looks like a great canadian show. Would love to see it come to life
Thanks Britt.
I will not be voting for these guys project because I think How To Do Everything Gooder is the best show CBC could choose to air!
Amber, this show idea is far from my fave too but if I was going to bash them I would at least write reasons why pertaining to their idea and their show, not use their space to shamelessly plug my/my friend's/my fave project. Shame on you!
Well thanks for taking the time to leave the constructive feed back. Im guessing your spamming this on everyones comment section to complete badges right?
This could showcase some really great Canadian humor. Will be watching in the following weeks. Not really my style entirely, but definitely in contention!
Thanks Rory
Great Work! Funny concept and definitely lots of potential! Keep up the great work:) Very Creative!
Thanks Carolyn.
Great job making top 55, There is some stiff competition out there and more than a few laughs. I think you will be in the Top 15 ! Good luck
This is quite the entertainment piece! Good luck guys!!! This would not always be my type of comedy to watch, but maybe I should vacation there to find out the nuances of ya'lls area. Also, are those accents for real?!
What accent?
Very real Nate.
haha nothin like it. i really appreciate what you're doing here. youve got serious game and i have become a big admirer. you deserve to win this contest. you are definitely welcome to entertain me any time of the year. keep it up and be the people youve always wanted to be.
Thanks so much Dawson.
While some of the humour isn't necessarily my cup of tea, it's hard to deny the chemistry between the leads and the personality certainly comes through. While I wish there was a little more to get hyped about in this video, it was well crafted, delivered and cut -- and that, in and of itself, I suppose, is something to get hyped about: There's some obvious talent both in front of and behind the camera on this one. Good stuff.
Wow thanks for the kind remarks Mike.
My Top 5 picks!
1. Wasted
2. Bike Cops
3. Roll for Damage
4.Infinite Possibilities
5. Geoff and the Ninja
Good luck in the competition guys! everyones been doing a pretty good job considering the time constraints to film each challenge.
Wharf Rats will be there, you watch !
Good pics Lovina. Is this a spam message to get extra badges? Seems to be a popular thing to do.
I think you guys will be riding the top for awhile. Great comedy and likable guys well sort of. Keep up the good work and make more of these funny videos.
Thanks so much Indrani.
Congratulations on making it to the Top 55! I enjoy that you all enjoy each other, but the concept is a little too "canuck-y" for me. I know how hard it is to come up with new material each week so congratulations on your hard work. Good luck moving forward!
Its very canucky, Megan. Thanks for the feedback.
Can't say I can see how this plot can have much depth of interest for me. I want to see something of these guys heart. What matters to them? Poopy farty has it's place but it's a problem for me if it is the basis of the plot. Lots of support for you guys though. All the best.
Thanks Nathan. I don't think we've yet really stretched our wings. And I don't expect we're from everyone. But we appreciate the comments and support.
Quite the competition from the east to the west coast and such an excellent group of participants makes it hard to pick just 15. I hope CBC gives you each a coffee mug or something for getting to the top 55. Best wishes to all.
Id love a CBC coffee cup.
i really like the east and the stuff you guys bring to it, i think you guys have a sick support community. one of my favourite moments was the box burning on the water. looks grand
Thanks so much Anton.
Well the final hours of the vote to get to the next level are approaching now so it is up to the voters now to get you there. Best wishes to you for success and nice work on getting through to the top 55 for all those able who were able to get that far.
Thanks Bryan!
Great job on your video, Your project looks hilarious and you guys know how to make me laugh. All the best in the next cut, but you guys clearly don't need it.
Thanks Satheesan. You never know what can happen on the internet over a few hours.
People on here surprise me, making THIS the most popular project.
Which is clearly why the world shuns Canadian TV. (aside from Trailer Park Boys/Kids in the Hall)
But congrats on making the top 50.
Mean thing to say Dave. FWIW I wouldn't pick this wharf show to win the contest but I would pick it in front of your show which is one of the least funny videos I have seen so far. Canadian TV needs help indeed.
Hi Dave.
What a completely ridiculous comment to make about a fellow participant. Completely uncalled for.
-Dom (YARNS)
You want these guys to apologize for being popular? Some teams in this competition embrace their decidedly-Canadian roots and some don't. The ones that do get better local support. That's the reality. I would suggest you watch the web series Just Passing Through but I think you should start with MTV's boy band parody 2gether first. Or you could go back to cut and paste commenting.
Thanks Dave. I've seen 4play - so we obviously have a very different sense as to why the world shuns Canadian TV. That said, we and some teams/friends have spent quite a few years working on online fan bases and its been to our favour. I think a lot of teams underestimate the work that was involved in that to capitalize on this opportunity when it came.
Way to go on your comedy coup efforts to date. You have succeeded in making it to the top 55 and that is something to be proud of. Already the competition is getting tough as the quality of the competitors gets refined. Best wishes for making it to the next level.
Thanks Diana.
It's a bit out of my taste. but there's enough shows out there with similar types, so good luck.
Great piece of Canadiana. Always interesting to see what the other coast is up to. Definitely a unique brand of comedy coming out of the maritimes. Keep up the good work!
Thanks Ryan! We appreciate it, and will do our best!
nice sell sheet and not a bad vid. gives a journalist some copy. east coast stereotypes are funny the same way dumb blonde jokes are funny to some and offensive to others
Yes.
Well done on getting this far. I am not sure this my humour, and I wonder if this could go beyond a 30-minute show. But good luck to you, I'm sure we'll see you in the next round!
If you are receiving this comment then you are one of my top 15 favorites in this comedycoup.cbc.ca contest and you are congratulated for making the top 55 and doing a really good job on all the missions to date. That has been a lot of work so congratulations on your efforts!
You guys have been producing solid content up to now and I don't see that slowing down! I hope to see more of what you can do in the top 15 - cheers!
Thank You Erin, like all the teams in this competition, we've been working hard to produce material we find funny and is in accordance with our concept, and the many missions that have come down the pike. Solid!!
respectfully disagree
Seems to me that the people who like Wharf Rats LOVE Wharf Rats and those who don't, really don't and that's a good thing. You never want to to be in the broad fat middle. A passionate response in any direction is a good thing... it means your show has a strong flavour and place based identity kinda like dulse and moonshine.
I like the way you Think Shane! Thank you!
Congratulations on making the top 55. As this is the first video I've seen so far - I will definitely watch more. Very unique and original. Best of luck!
My top 15 in no particular order are:
Geoff and the Ninja, The Hill, How to do Everything Gooder, The Lease, Warf Rats, Dear Stella, Goons, Fruit Farm, North of Normal, Buddy guys, The Cutbacks, The Batchelors, Dope Ass World, Nanny Walbourne, Heir Heads.
Thanks for putting us on your list Debra.
Nice job with the "hype" video guys. You kept it light and funny, but I still understood that there was a sense of urgency, that this project needs our support. Fun, effective delivery. Best of luck!
As an Islander I'm wondering where the comedy is, all of this is 100% true to life. :) I have to admit I wasn't too taken with the week 1 video, but hearing more about the show, and the other characters has definitely made me interested in learning more!
Thanks Vanessa.
My Top 15 Picks are (in alphabetical order):
Bad Records
Bike Cops
Blackwater Records
Buddy Guys
Campus Law
Dead Air
Dope Ass World
Graham Clark: Wilderness Man
Heir Heads
HumanTown
Infinite Possibilities
Jobless
One Night Only
Welcome to Tulip
Wharf Rats
Sweet, We made your cut!!! Thanks Keith!!
Definitely original and uniquely Canadian! And you seem to have a sense of an arch in plot I am not sure how funny it is compared to some others but I wish you luck because you definitely have something different!
Thanks Kathryn
The fish flask is a good gag and the still makes a great image. As an Alberta actor I would like to vocal coach you so you don't drop the ends of your sentences, Robby. We westerners don't want to miss a word! Good luck.
Yea we could use your help, Liam.
It's an interesting premise that you have here and it is delivered in a promising way. I want to see more of this from you in the future and I am interested to see how this moves forward. Good luck with the rest of the competition.
Thanks so much Rob
Week 1 I felt this was way too east coast (for those of us on the west coast anyway).. but the drinking in a boat on land Ive seen done by family and friends so couldnt help but laugh and enjoy this. Good luck Gents
Ahoy John! Thanks!
We wear being to east coast for the west coast a badge of honour :)
Thanks John D!
I don't get it, sorry dudes. But who cares, you've got lots of support so you don't need me to get it. :P
Best of luck, I'm interested to see what you put out there going forward.
Thanks Stephanie. No need to be sorry. We don't need or want everyone to like us. If we did comedy like that, that would truly be "who cares comedy".
Interesting idea for a show! Very East Coast sense of humour, and style of comedy. The two main guys are entertaining to watch, they're very animated.
Thanks Natalie.
I know that some people love this but I personally don't find your style of comedy particularly amusing. I think it would be better if you used a greater number of comedic tactics rather than just focus on one.
Thanks for the feedback Hannah.
My fuck, is that the guy from Pogey Beach?!! It's becoming obvious to me that Prince Edward Island is Canada's new comedy mecca. Love what you boys are doing. I'd give it full stamp.
Thanks Franco. Ya have a lot of time to play with yer imagination when you're unemployed all year long.
Good concept and definitely a funny cast. The fish flask is a good gag, or maybe everyone carries one in PEI. Good luck for the next round.
Thanks Pyper.
your PEI approach is so distinctly canadian. maybe a bit stereotypical but probably very accurate (ive never been but i have always wanted to - especially after watching these clips!) i can certainly see this project winning, and if not, it should become a movie one day.
Thanks Bobby. A Wharf Rats movie huh?
There are lots of viewer's that will want to be in these guy's boat. They will never be sea sick.
I would enjoy "meeting MOM " and seeing what sort of kitchen Dennis and Robbie have.
It can't be all beer and fish, PEI have great cattle farms and Dennis should opt to work at one and come back to Robbie telling him of his adventure in the winter episode "tough shit" "I'd rather be Fishin"
Thanks for the feedback Murray! We want to introduce mom too. Its hard with such a heavy, but tight schedule - week after week. We're trying to keep things simple.
you guys, once again, nailed it. that fish-flask joke was hilarious. i actually laughed out loud. nice work. your accents are so loveable and i really can see this taking it all the way
Thanks Rob!
Wharf Rats is a unique show but i feel like its been done before. (The simpsons already did it) but I like your persistence. You guys have a huge following and this will definitely be in top 15. wish you the best.
We do have lots of influences Jasneet. But Im quite impressed that you find us both unique and "done before" all at the same time. Thats impressive.
Haha. You guys crack me up. Wharf rats is definitely well explained with this hype video. Great delivery, and I know a couple fisherman just like you fellows. Hats off to ya.
Thanks Marc! And some people told us we weren't "authentic"
I appreciate that you have a community of fans behind you, yet I find the humor of this show shallow and even if the writing is funny the actors are hitting every joke on top of the head which robs the audience of the joke. Not diggin' what your trowin' out b'ys. From all my years of living on the Rock I can tell you what you're missing, Heart and a touch of dark humor. good luck.
Thanks Brandon. You could be right - don't forget the way the 90 seconds shape your comedy - you need quick gags, rapid fire. And you need to hit things on the head.
Good luck boys at the filling the nets and traps with votes, looking forward to your week 6 video entry
Thanks Sheldon. I think you'll like this one.
Sent a school of votes your way!!!!!!
This could be fun. Sound and accents might be a challenge for a broader audience. Also characters will have to be developed and introduced to upper Canadian audience who may not know what DFO is or relationship of fishermen with folks who work in processing plants.
Good points Ed. Of course, more time means more elaboration on that stuff. And certainly to see a DFO character in action, for example, would go a long way in clarifying them.
Pay close attention to sound quality, it will help you get the audience hooked!
Thanks Pierre -Luc - we're working with limited crew and equipment in bad maritime weather in difficult locations. Not an excuse, just a reality.
Another awesome concept, but I think you guys missed the "hype it" point.
Thanks Ashley - it was a difficult one.
That was one of the funniest videos for this week fer sure eh! I enjoyed the banter between youse guys eh! And you could market the fishy beerholder. Move over MacKenzie brothers there's something strange but cool brewing in PEI!
Thanks Carmenne!
Well guys I have to say you have held my interests over the last couple of weeks and congratulations on making the top 55. It was a pleasure to hear from the people who are putting it together and see what you are like and the concepts you are trying to generate .The accents and the Eastern comedic dialect truly make the show .
Congratulations on making it to the top 55. There is a lot of humour to be had in and around Prince Edward Island with fishing, people, boats telling the West what water is like, etc., enough to last for several years of shows. Good luck.
Thanks Judith!
I do like me some good ol' maritime humor and I think there is potential here. This weeks video gave me an idea of what's to come, but not sure it motivated me to do something about it. Good luck!
Thanks Greg!
Funny concept and would look forward to an East Coast show, but this video could have definitely been a lot more creative in doing self-promotion. Well, good luck!
Thanks for watching and the critique. I guess our hype it project had a lot of components. We thought the sell sheet was good, the video explained what we were doing, and we had a great live event!
I have to say that as far as Week #5 Hype Videos go, this wasn't may favourite -- it gave the premise for the show but it didn't get me excited about it. However, it get me going back to give another look at other missions for the project and I got some chuckles out of them! Good luck boys!
Thanks Don. There are some good ones out there.
Hate to be a wet blanket, but these are NOT East Coast accents. These guys are funny dudes and know how to exaggerate the local accent to make us Maritimers sound dumb, dumber, dumbest. Frankly, it's disturbing that others across the country think of this show as somehow authentic. It's an exaggeration, folks, and that's why it's funny. My trouble with it is that it's breathing lots of new life into all those stereotypes of East Coasters as dumb and dumber.
We're funny dudes born and bred in the east coast, creating TWO character not representative of anything but those TWO characters. I don't think maritimers (as one) are dumb at all. These two characters, though, are very dumb. Im also fairly certain that when people refer to its authenticity they mean even UNDER all of the parody and satire. Maybe you're having trouble seeing through that wet blanket?
Very Canadian accents, definitely brings some canadian comedy to it. I was hoping for a tad more humour in this video but generally a fun concept that I would like to hear more about in the future. Keep plugging away boys!
Thanks Laura - while our goal thus far had been humour, our goal in this video was to be a little more serious about getting the concept out there.
Well guys I have to say you have held my interests over the last couple of weeks and it was a pleasure to hear from the people who are putting it together and see what you are like and the concepts you are trying to generate .The accents and the Eastern comedic dialect truly help to make the show .as i continue to follow your progress.Good luck to you all.
Thanks Alvin.
Here are my picks for the top 15, no particular order:
Human Town
Heir Heads
Depflies
Wharf Rats
Just Passing Through
Goons
Blackwater Music
Randy Justice
The Lease
Grahm Clark: Wilderness Man
Roll for Damage
Toronto After Dark
Killing It
Scratch Tracks
Dope Ass World
Definitely the star of this show is your quaint and quirky comedic language, all wrapped up in that east coast accent. I could listen to ya' talk all friggen day!
Thanks Karen.
Good luck in the contest. This week was a little serious, but nice to get to meet cha. What absolutely saved it as comedy was the ending. Loving the boat shot and the fish beer is very cool. I'd watch it!
Thanks so much Sandra.
Fishers RULE!!! I like fish. I like water. I like water monsters. I like the rocks. That are under the water. And I like lobsters. But NOT crabs!!! I agree with Alberta B. It has potential to be funny. But you'd have to really work at it.
Thanks Jesse!
Love the video guys, and good times last night. Even Cornbread said he had fun. Thanks for having us out to the Live (Not Like a River) Stream Kitchen Party, hope everyone who missed it checks out the recording when you post it: good tunes, good laughs, good times, minimal butt stuff...
Was a lot of fun Travis. It should be available to see soon.
You guys did a great job of explaining your concept. Sounds like your show has lots of potential. Good luck!
Good luck in the contest. The video is well done. It’s getting to be a tight contest. I wish you all the best. What’s next if you don’t make the cut? You should check out your local film festival.
Thanks Daryl. We've had pieces in the local film fest for over a decade (As well as tests across the country and even beyond).
You guys are the ones to beat for sure, I have been watching you guys since passing through and leafs beefs, if you're ever looking for help with any thing hit up HoveLand. Maybe we could do a mash up where your ghost talking seagull goes on a date with our giant pigeon.
Thanks Adam. That mash up sounds awesome.
the show has potential to be funny but ethically questionable. the two of you work well together. congratulations on making it to top 55 and good luck on making it to the next level
Thanks Alberta b.!
Not a lot of good comedy is 100% ethically sound,
We don't mind being ethically questionable, so thanks for the comment!
There were less butts in this video, and I'm not sure how I feel about that.
You guys have a great dynamic on-screen together, and GOD DAMN do I wish I had a PEI accent.
Come hang out for awhile Ryan, and you'll have it down in no time!
Yes, but you look like a man in a position of authority and no one takes people with PEI accents seriously, so careful what you wish for.
The PEI accent is a delicacy, considering there may only be 15 - 20 of us in all of mankind.
Does the beer have a distinct fishy flavour? Looks downright delicious if you ask me. Looking forward to more of your zany antics. Good luck in the vote this weekend!
Jason's right here Krityna, it's hard to determine which taste tips the scales..... ;)
The beer tastes like Alpine, so its hard to tell when the fishy taste was added - before the fish or after the fish? No way to know.
I like your sell sheet but I am not sure I can relate to your idea, I see where you are coming from with your humour and the type and style of delivery you are using but I find it a little slow.
Thanks for the comment Alisha. It certainly could be slow to some, though many considered our previous videos fast paced in some ways. So - I guess they are what they are to the person watching.
Love you guys.... to funny but how can the rest of canada relate?
It's really a story about two brothers that want nothing more than to gain respect from their Father. Thanks for the comment
Well, while its maybe not clear yet, the show is about big dreams and obstacles to them. It just happens to take place in a particular culture and region of Canada - the same way us maritimers can relate to shows being made anyway. The same way I can watch a film from any part of the world - set in a specific place with themes that are much more universal.
Not bad, still interested in these characters, though i don't know that they haven't been done before. But you guys are pretty funny, so good luck!
Hi Jordana - we draw from a lot of sources as inspiration and don't claim to be entirely new (nor should anyone in this competition). That said - I do think there are some things we do that are new and I certainly think we're obviously unique in the competition.
Great kitchen party tonight, had a lot of beer and a ton of laughs, looking forward to an after party possiblyi a few weeks
Wicked Times Sheldon! So good to have you two on Board!!!
Yeeeeeeeeees
hey we need comedy coming out of somewhere in the maritimes other than newfoundland and halifax! this week was a bit slower than the others, but i guess maybe because you were less in character?
AGREEEED !!!!
Hey Eric - yea - we really wanted to take a moment just to tell people about the show. We new it would be slower, but wanted to get it out there.
I can see how this would appeal to someone from Prince Edward Island, but for the rest of the country we find it extremely dull and boring.
Thanks for speaking for the rest of the country, Bill. The rest of us on PEI find people that want to speak for everyone else extremely dull and boring. Looking forward to seeing your show.
It'd likely be pretty appealing to other Maritimers, perhaps Newfoundlanders (that's four provinces right there, hardly a sliver of the rest of the country), or folks who enjoy the humour. Its a bit much to say no one else in Canada would like the show, or to say it would be boring. The content these guys have already put out is really funny stuff.
This video lacked the hype quality that other projects have created, but it's still heartwarming and a cute project that seems promising! Good luck!
Thanks Curtis, we're primed to blow the lid off of Cute tho Buddy!
Thanks Curtis.
This video wasn't a great hypeit video as I felt it was a little slow and dull. The setting was interesting but I don't know if I fully relate to the humour you guys are putting out in your project maybe it's an East Coast/West Coast thing. Best of luck in the top 15, seems you got the most following!
I'm not sure why it would be an east - west thing. Probably the most famous west coast television show of all time is where we draw a lot of inspiration.
you guys are master are using double meaning sentences! Never visited the Maritimes, but want to one day... maybe then i will be able to understand your 'language'. Nothing wrong with your language, it's just difficult for me to understand. But you guys are doing great in your project and are well liked.
Thanks Chantal. Hope to see you here one day.
I'd rather kiss a cod than drink from a haddock. You can tune a piano, but you can't tuna fish. There's a joke in there somewhere. Gross, just gross, so deliciously gross. I wanna try it. Where do I get a bottle of that stuff?
I'm going to email ya one Alex!
This man knows his fish !!!
I'll send ya one in the mail.
Two guys who dream of becoming rich and famous as fishermen? Uh oh, are there any fish left? I'm a little underwhelmed so far but maybe the comedy is too region-specific. Good luck to you nonetheless.
Thanks for the comment Chris. Now ya know how us east coasters feel about all those urban shows.
Don't get salmonella from that fish liquor. Otherwise you'll need to call a sturgeon. Best of luck boys, you're kickin ass.
Ha Ha! Nice one there Kajetan!!
Thanks Kajetan.
Hey sweet ride bros. Keep up the good work, I hope you are very much selected for the top 15 in this here super fun comedy coup competition. love the reveal at the end that the boat is in a yard! friggin sweet eh
Thanks Stefan.
You've done a great job at describing your show while using the style and humor we are likely to see when it is made. I'm not certain you addressed the mission requirements, only because I'm still uncertain what exactly they were asking for this week, and I'm not even certain whether or not my own project addressed the mission requirements. Hopefully we both did. Good luck in the top 15 vote.
We are wingin' er bud. Holding on fer dear life
You feel the same way we feel Taylor!
I like the accents. Love the fish flask! Love the line about not wanting to read "that smut". Good luck to you boys.
Maritimes' sense of humour! Kiss the cod. Keep up the good work. Like the accents too! Looking forward to seeing the next video of these down easters!
Thanks Judy !
I've been to a kitchen party and your portrayal of a 'down home' kitchen party was super. Hope you guys make it into the top fifteen...you deserve it. I love your premise and the writing is great.
THat's just wicked to hear !!! Thanks Nancy! You've got an official invite to the next one!
Thanks Nancy.
Your support network will surely vote you into the Top 15, so congrats! Looking forward to seeing your week 6 video, PLEASE attempt something that has nothing to do with the maritimes.
Good idea, Max. Thanks for the comment. I think we need to step outside of the maritimes a bit for the flip.
Gosh you folks are hilarious. As evident by your large following, I am impress with the quality your team displays. Good luck this week. Hope we all see one another at top 15
From Team Maple U ,
http://comedycoup.cbc.ca/mapleu
Thanks Amir. Im enjoying Maple U as well!
I really enjoyed this video. your team is unique, good luck!
Thanks Josianne!
Thanks for the super feedback everyone. We're far from perfect but working hard to at the very least give everyone a bit of chuckle through out the competition.
Good luck with the voting today, just sent a bunch your way
So you have won this mission hands down - after watching many of the entries, yours is the only one that really stands out while meeting the objective of a new comedy sitcom. You sell sheet is great - it grabs attention. Here's to making the top 15, then on to #1.
THanks Nancy Beth! We're givin' er', and you folks are gettin' er'!
Congratulations on making it to the top 55. Your hype video and sell sheet were well done. Good luck on making it to the top 15! Good work
Thanks Adam
Great job fellas. You are hilarious!
Thanks Nancy
Great job this week on the video. It was kinda serious but you still got a cpl jokes in there, also the information was good.
You hyped the show to us and did a damn good job of it. I wasn't a fan of Week #1, but you did a good job on this assignment. Best of luck to you in this competition
Thanks Karin.
Hey guys, nice video this week. It didn't necessarily feature too many reasons as to why the media should cover the show, but then again I feel like your project's concept inherently tells people how it's unique; there aren't that many shows set on the island with island culture. Good luck with the Top 15!
Thanks Michael - Yea, we wanted to try to clarify the story a bit but at the same time we know our setting stands out as different. It's its own kind of hype.
Looking forward to the KITCHEN PARTY TONIGHT, may try and play the spoons or if not maybe get a 19 hand in a game of crib
Me too!
You love what you do! It's nice seeing a bit more about PEI. I'm not sure I'd be a 'fan' for an entire series, but you are putting in the effort and I appreciate that. Good luck on Top 15!!!
Thanks ben. We put a ton of work with very little into these sketches.
I like this project a lot. I love how Canadian this is!! It is so much fun to see a little about PEI and watch some funny fishing stories. The ideas are very funny, but I don`t know if the acting can hold up in prime time. Keep up the good work though. You`ve continued to make me laugh. Good Luck
Thanks for the comment Roger - Part of it may be that the sketches are done so quickly. Both Robbie and Dennis have done some really strong work in the past - both in last year's Just Passing Through which the Globe and Mail ranked a top ten television show, and Robbie more recently in the newly released Donnie Dumphy movie "How To Be Deadly".
This is my favourite of your videos so far. I want to not like your project because you're doing so well and we live at opposite coasts of this crazy country. But you don't let me not like you. I may not know exactly what your show will look like, but I know it will have lots of heart. You seem like great guys and your love for this project shines through every time!
Thanks Dylan. Part of being in the accelerator is that we get to learn about the show too...so we hope that becomes more and more clear to all of us as we (hopefully) continue.
nicely done. You guys are talented and funny and likable. You have done a bang up job so far in the competition. I hope you continue to shine and the sell sheets were awesome.
Thanks Jason T. We like being liked.
Possibly the most distinctively Canadian project in the running! Love the characters. Best luck in the voting.
Had a few chuckles during the video! Really brings out the east coast culture and traditions. A little down grading on the intellectual beings of the east coast, though!
Hi Sharleen. Thanks for the comment. Glad you liked it. I don't think we downgrade anyone's intelligence other than a few main characters - and they don't represent any one but the figments of our imagination.
ya, you guys got me! you guys are crazy. I certainly can't talk like you guys, so you got that going for you! I am not a big fan of WharfRats... but there's got to be something for everyone out there! Good luck!
Thanks Don. Yea - we have thick enough skin that we're ok with some people no liking us. Our goal never is and will never be making something for everyone. You're feedback is much appreciated!
Appreciate the effort, saw two kinds of humour in the top 55, what I like and what I don’t. I hope I will see less silly and no beeps from the top 15.
Hey Kat - Ive mentioned this before. I think sometimes the videos may be crazier than the shows being pitched. The 90 second, must get favourites format sort of forces teams into those boxes a bit...or at least leads them in that direction. So, Id expect the videos for most teams to be a bit different than the end result.
Good to get more background on your plot line from this video Good luck!
Thanks Belinda.
Boy oh boy Dennis, you sure do make a lot of funny faces in this here video. Do you know how they used to make that horse on Mr. Ed make funny faces back in the day? Well, if ya don't, I aint gonna tell ya.... but let me ask ya this...who was standing behind ya when this video was being shot eh? Ha ha!
good job you guys! this video was informative and a little more serious. the sell sheet was eye catching and also gave good information. you guys are talented and I hope the best for you.
Thanks Ron.
Your team has done an exceptional job of promoting. You're always reaching out to fans in character.
And you're presenting the world of the wharf which is unique to the rest of Canada.
Congratulations on a great campaign.
Thanks for this Peter S.! It's been a Trap-full of work, and we've had our hip-waders overflow with fun so far!
Thanks Peter S! We try to be as active in this section as possible. I would say we've managed to respond to over 80 percent of the comments!
I found this to be somewhat amusing. It is my understanding that fans will decide which shows make the top 15 in this competition.
You're right Bernie. Voting start tomorrow.
I'm not sure why I'm just discovering your team now, but I'm hooked! Just binged on all your videos, some great laughs here, I can see this being a TV series in a heartbeat. Also a movie.
Glad we Hooked Ya Lindsey! Keep watching, we'll give ya even more reasons to dive deeper!
Aww shucks that us tres nice of you to say !!
Since the beginning, you've remained true to the tone of your show and you've done an impeccable job with all of your videos. They're hilarious, professional and provide a uniquely absurd perspective of the east coast life. But, seriously, where are the babes?
Lots of babes coming Grace.
In the comment section Grace S.
I like the plea for transform payments to under performing provinces!
That's how we do it here.
Looks okay. Average acting and premise. However, fun to see a little about PEI and watch some funny fishing stories.
Thanks Dirt.
Cute video. I enjoyed hearing what the plots of a few episodes would be as I was curious about that. Not really my kind of show, the humor doesn't grab me personally, but best of luck!
Keep tuned in Diana M., if we have ya on the line, we don't wana lose ya.
Thanks for the comment Diana.
I've noticed how the ladies are swarmin' the whaf rat boys in the comments ... gotta be that Island charm eh?
It may be our scent that's gettin' to em' Shane. So far, during this competition, I've had about enough time to shower about two and 1/2 times! That includes the time I was scrubbing with a Perch!!
The sexy is in the accent.
I think the video kind of doesn't pull me this week. Sort of seems like it should have been last weeks video for sure.
But the week before was poster art? And the week before was what sets us apart (our location, environment and slapstick humour?). Regardless, thanks for the feedback.
A cute idea. Like the flask. Don't know though if it would keep me coming back every week. I thought this mission was done well but like the teaser the jokes are a bit predictable. Congrats on making the top 55 and good luck.
Cheers Kelly S.
Thanks kelley.
Congratulations on making it to the top 55 in the comedy coup pitch contest, and good luck going forward as they decide the top 15.
good job on the challenge this week! you guys are very talented and hardworking. At times the video was a bit boring but this weeks challenge was hard to make super exciting.
The sound kind of bothered me....but I definitely want to see your video every week! I love PEI and I want to get that flask....
Hard location for filming. Thanks for the feedback.
Being from Newfoundland I feel comfortable watching this kind of production. What intrigued me was the fact that the "touch of the spiritual" was the father coming back as a seagull. I don't know about anybody else, but I would love to see that happen on CBC.
What I want for this piece is for it not to get lost in crazy town. It's easy for something like this to get out of hand really quickly. With all of the nonsense that could go down, I believe there should be an equal amount of the real. I want to see them fish, I want to see them have a taste of success and then loose it! I'm hopeful for this show!
3.5/5
Thanks Christopher, great comment. You're right this concept could get out of control fast. I like a little bit of both in my life.
Thanks Christopher! I think you're right. We don't want to get too crazy. If anything I think that our short vids are maybe crazier than the show would be - but thats a bit imposed on us by trying to get laughs in 90 seconds.
You've got charisma. I like that you own the simplicity of your jokes... it makes them genuinely funny. You guys know who you are and what you're on about. I'm intrigued. Initially it doesn't seem like my thing, but you make me laugh week to week and I'm intrigued to see how you can maintain that funny.
Thanks Krista. We believe in writing about what we know. We are trying to show the world we aren't JUST Anne of Green Gables .
Thanks so much for watching Krista.
Great funny stuff guys! I love the unexpected surprises at the end of your videos. This makes me think of a PEI version of Corner Gas.
Thanks Scott B.
I really enjoy the chemistry between your two characters. You are genuinely funny and engaging to watch. I think your theme would lend itself to so many different story lines. Who doesn't love an east coast accent? Well done, and good luck in making the top 15!
Thanks Sadie !!
Overall, great video. I thought you explained your concept very well and made it funny at the same time. I'm just wondering, when you said hard to starboard did you not actually turn to the port side?
Good eye Christina !
Maybe.
You know what I love about you guys…you reply to the comments…you have a lot of respect for your audience. I have commented on others' work and there was a glaring lack of interaction. But you know you've won my heart already.
I agree Deb C.! Thank YOU for making a connection with US! It's wicked! We're hoping to make a certain connection with our Concept and sense of humor of course, but it's important to interact and connect in whatever ways possible. Keep Connecting!
Some great concepts from fish flask to sea gulls and sperm whales, The pace seems a little slow to hold the attention of a national audience. Gook luck in the next round waiting to see what you come up with next.
Thanks for the thoughts Tricia. I actually thought the pacing of some of our vids is among the fastest in the competition.
I like you guys. I'm just not sure if this kind of humour could last long without getting old too soon. The crazy fisherman gag is not new.
It's not really something I'd watch, but I think you're giving it a really great shot. I hope that made some sense. Good luck for top fifteen!
Thanks Lauren, we have been developing the concept as we go along so who know what it will look like in the end.. Maybe you would LOVE it.
I like your accent . Works nicely with the story and the fishing boat. The flask was funny. You could probably use the flask for some other profitable ideas. Good luck guys.
Dragons Den here we come !!
Sweet and charming fellas! :) Team Charlie and Yoni
Thanks Jessica.. we are kinda winging it .. hope we see you in the top 15 !!
Good luck wharf rats on your recent acquisition of a fish with a flask in it. I was gonna stop throwing my crap in the ocean but now I see that can be very useful.
Thanks Joanne! Fishflasks will be at your local Liquor stores before the Holidaze I bet!
Simple and sincere. I like the story line and think it could be funny. Salt water cowboys with more humour is appealing. The cod flask is funny. Good luck with advancing.
Thanks for this Sharon H.! Simple and Sincere fits those two lads like a fresh new pair of rubber boots!
Thanks Sharon !!!
What does one have to do in a past life to come back as a seagull? This looks funny lads; I look forward to seeing two bumbling brothers make their way through the world. Would love to see more about some of their schemes to 'get rich quick' via fishing. Good luck!
Fer starters, A person would probably have to not bicker too much about their fries with the works from the Wharf Chip shop to maybe be lucky enough to come back as a Seagull Kirk! Thanks eh!
Thanks Kirk
Loved the visual prank of the final frame! The humour doesn't hit my funny bone, but I appreciate your story line and the sort two buffoons on a boat dialogue. I really liked your sell sheet. Good luck going into the Top 15!
Thanks Liz.
Puns about sperm whales and lame fisherman jokes from guys who are obviously in a boat that's not moving long before we're supposed to know. Not to mention drinking from a fish because obviously that's what fishermen do right. I wish I could vote less than 1 out of 10 because this is not even close to being funny IMO.
Puns about Sperm Whales? Cum' on JP....
Great comment JP !!
Thanks for the feedback JP. We do the best we can do with little time, little money, little resources and few boats left in the water at this time of year. Thanks for the comments on the sell sheet as well.
Another great one boys!!...My eyes sure perked up when I seen the Fish Flask!! Loved it!!...My cheeks are sore from giggling!!
Keep those cheeks warm Maria, there's much more giggling to come!
Thanks Maria.
Thanks Maria !!!
Fish beer! I like the simplicity of your concept I think this can go a long way and any funding you guys get can clearly go really far as not too much of it is tied up in the foundation. Good work!
You're right Mike F.! The simple things in life can carry you far!
Thanks Mike! Glad you enjoyed it.
good job on this weeks challenge. It was lacking on the camera work side but you gave a lot of good info for the press and kept with your theme nicely. I like the beer in the fish haha
Thanks Sarah...was a tough shooting location with bad weather, cold wind, lack of light and very little room. We tried to make it work as best as we could.
If this comedy coup thing doesn’t work out, you’ll have the fish flask to fall back on (and maybe a line of fish sippy cups?)
We got a line of flasks and sippy cups all lined up.
I am not enjoying this. I keep watching this, as you seem to be high in the ratings, just not getting the funny. Could not watch this as a weekly series.
No worries Ian. We aren't for everyone. If we were there would be a serious problem. Thanks for the feedback.
Another great vid! Looking forward to seeing you fellas advance through the competition! Wishing you the best of luck and we'll all celebrate with our fish-flasks when it's over!
Thanks for watching Kris.
Your character interaction is good; however, I am not seeing much here that I have not seen before. It is predictable and I cannot see myself watching it weekly. Sorry.
Thanks for the comment John. Im not entirely sure what you mean though - this vide was an attempt to lay out a bit of the characters and story - something we haven't done yet.
I liked the way it was filmed. I felt like I might get sea sick so it was hilarious when the boat was on land. Great job.
I like the concept, but why the f*ck do you guys have to be so good looking?
That's just prosthetics and thick make-up Micah!!
It helps that I tend to stay offscreen.
Great chemistry between these actors. It is so Canadian and so cool it is based in PEI. There are always some great bits in your videos....the fish flask, the parked boat...awesome!
Thanks Julia!
I do like watching these two interact. Every video has some creative twist that keeps the interest up. I like the "parked" boat. The fish flask was icky but then again it was a creative twist!
Thanks Julie.
good rapport between the actors and immediate intimate camera action that really pulls you in to the skit.
Thanks Michael. Glad you enjoyed.
UGH...That fish flask :S I gotta admit, I got a little nauseous there for a second. Awesome as usual boys. I cannot wait to see Martin & Hughie on their adventures! I know I will be voting for yous....only 3 more days! :D
Thanks for the support Alexandra!
very canadian. very cbc. very.... on point to this coup! kind of like a maritime Beach Combers, except hopefully funny.
Thanks Art!
Great stuff guys! We laugh so hard every time we catch your new videos! Keep up the fantastic work and we hope to see you make it all the way to the final fifteen!! Best of luck!
With comments like this, we feel like we'll go all the way!! Thanks Jessi L.!
Thanks Jessi!
More fun than a fish tub full of screech... wait a minute, wrong province. More fun than kissing the cod... nope, wrong again. Wait a minute, wasn't that a cod you were kissing? I'm confused.
That Fishtub of Screech sounds pretty darn fun tho Darcy! Dangerous and Fun! A great Pairing!
Obviously you're from the mainland. We prefer haddock for everything here on PEI
Your production quality is good.
Thanks Debbie - we don't have much out here but our effort.
Fish flask....how many alpines did it take yas to come up with that one. Love it
12 alpines, 1 haddock
solid! keep at it guys!
Thank You Kindly Jennifer! Glad you're Fish-Stickin' with us!
Warf Rats is one of my faves!
A
Right on Angela P.!! Being one of your Favs, keeps us on the Waves!!!
Great work Rob Den Box and Dave....keep savin' up n get that girl ta sea!
We'll have a bunch of cash from the bottles alone Derek M.!! Thanks!
enjoyed the video and have a better idea of the show . Loved the bottle in a fish !
Thanks Pat C.! We're gonna try next to get a Boat in a bottle,....wait that's already been done. We'll keep workin' on gettin' a Boat first!!
Jeez boys. Rootin' for ya from across the Strait. I'm from Pictou County. We're practically related you know.
I think it's the arse shot that sold me. Lily white...
Kate E., We feel ya in spirit Neighbor,..or Cousint, whichever you prefer! And that arse shot has our asses smiling so hard, our cheeks hurt! Thanks for the support Kate E!
"Hard to starboard!" *turns left*
If by "star" you mean "follow" it's team Randy Justice!
You're getting a Star for noticing that move Max S. !!
Great video guys, hopefully the local Co-op's are stocked up on fresh fish, those fish FLASK are gonna be EVERYWHERE, I hear the slim from the fish lips also helps cure the common cold sores, or at least keeps them moisturized!!! Video also had lots of info about the show and what it will all be about!! Now just to show the rest of Canada what a RocK'N KITCHEN PARTY looks like!!!
I think we'll be heading to the next auditions for "Dragons Den" with our Fish-Flask prototype! Thanks for the glowing comments Sheldon! You're totally spot on with the fishlips cure-all! It cures even more than just cold sores! Ya heard how that Perch made Martins skin so soft after just a few scrapes across the skin, well Fishlips, especially those wrapped around a Schooner, can cure just about any ill!
good job. I am just not really getting all of the PEI jokes and I am not sure if the rest of Canada will either. But you guys are doing a good job and the front page of the sell sheet is eye catching.
We're glad you're keeping track of our project Carley t. And we appreciate your input. We're sold that our styles of laughs can connect in many ways with Canadians across the board.
Love you guys…you have the best (albeit grossest) ideas - "The Ol Fish Flask." Great sell sheet - I'm sold! Keep up the good work!
Thank you a bunch Deb C.! Glad you were sold on our Sell Sheet. And, ya gotta try a swig from the fish flask sometime! The hard stuff dis-infects and freshens any residual fishy-ness!
